I just got told you can ignore any media that you don’t want to consume and pretend it doesn’t exist?
Unless you believe yourself to be personally responsible for how other people get information on various topics then I just suggested you might be less vexxed by worrying less about that and more on ensuring you get your own information from the many reliable sources available. At the moment you seem to be getting worked up by something you have no control over.

I do get worked up over it, it’s quite a big issue. I know people who over the last year have been terrified to leave the house or have anyone else in their house because of what the news has told them. The fuel “shortage” was a red herring, yet because the media made such a big deal about it, it led to millions of people going out and panic buying, thus causing an actual fuel shortage. It has real life consequences, it isn’t just a case of me choosing not to watch the news and then everything will be sound.

Swings both ways this though doesn’t it.

I know people who over the last year took no Covid precautions and refused to get a vaccine because the news has told them they should and it’s safe, and they don’t trust any MSM, so do the opposite.

It does indeed work both ways. I’d say the people you’re talking about there are in the vast minority though, as 85% of adults are fully vaccinated.

Sure, and I think the number of people who are terrified by BBC news and let it occupy their every waking thought are also probably a minority.

Most people fall in the middle where they understand which bits of news are ‘news’ and which is opinion and get that editorial decision making plays a part in what makes the news and what doesn’t.

Talking about inept journalism

California had a particularly bad wave last Dec/Jan and there has been a tragic loss of life and in the past few months much of it could have been avoided. However it is the most populous state by a wide margin so headline figures are bound to be high despite a per capita fatality rate in the lower third of US states.

I only wear a mask on public transport and inside supermarkets.

Haven't had the flu jab yet, don't know if I should as a 29 yo.
Know it isn’t free for your age but would be one of the best things you‘d spend a tenner on this winter.

Not only to reduce the chances of you from suffering the flu but, same as covid, reduces transmission to those around you and, unlike covid, flu can be particularly nasty for kids. NHS staff could do with an easier than usual flu season too.

Was 28 myself when I had flu once, along with better half and our eldest who was not a year old at the time. Worst I have felt with any of these viruses... It put the little one in hospital needing oxygen.
If I was given a forced choice of the two rather have bronchial pneumonia again which I had two weeks ago. Flu flattened me for two weeks, was bouncing again within four days of antibiotics with bronchitis.
