What makes you think the vaccine didn't work for him? They were never intended to completely prevent a person from catching COVID, but to prevent severe illness, and possible hospitalization and death. Given the severity of his symptoms, it's entirely likely the vaccine saved his life.

Unfortunately, you very well may. There's stories on the news here every single night in the US right now of people who thought they knew better than doctors and scientists, and didn't come to realize just how foolish that mindset was until it was far too late.
Difference is I'm not taking stupid risks and trying to act out in spite of everything. I'll be fine like I have been for the past 18 months.

‘Well that evidence is conflicting with other studies, produced in this country and endorsed, that vaccinated people can carry and transmit the virus at the same rates as unvaccinated.’

The point is that there is a flaw in this argument/logic.

The likelihood of someone passing the virus onto someone else having *not* contracted it in the first place is minuscule.

The vaccine reduces the likelihood that you will contract in the first place.

So vaccinated people are much less likely to pass it onto other people purely on the basis that they are less likely to contract it in the first place.
Not sure if you saw it Mill but thought you ‘d be interested in this this tweet thread/paper with a good explanation on all the ways vaccination likely reduces transmission

Does anyone have any knowledge of the requirements when you travel abroad for a day? As the wife hasn't seen the family for almost two years now, we're thinking of having a day, maybe two, in Vienna and they'll drive down. Obviously the current requirement is to have a test done two days before you return to the UK, but if we're only going for a day or two, would that mean having a test done in the UK before we go?

You're definitely allowed to do the return test in the UK if the trips less than 72 hours long I believe.
