Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

It helps because of what you see in this very thread- people calling the unvaccinated or people with Covid “walking bioweapons”. If vaccinated people can still transmit the virus to a degree it throws into question the whole planning around vaccine passports and people no longer needing to test negative.

If the point of the vaccines isn’t to massively reduce transmission then why is their a massive blame game going on around who is spreading the virus?

I should add that’s a partly rhetorical question- I know the point of the vaccine is to reduce your risk of serious illness. I just think there’s an awful lot of people who seem to think the vaccine is there to stop them from ever getting Covid and subsequently if they do catch it, it MUST be the fault of someone else- not just a natural part of life and the fact there’s an endemic virus in the populous which can’t be helped or eradicated at this point.

Tbh people won’t like it either, and you’re slightly younger than me (20’s) so I think you probably aren’t like this- but to me double vaccinated people really need to start chilling the “f” out about everybody else and trying to get on with their lives. Unless of course they think the vaccines should be stopping them from ever catching Covid? In which case, good luck to those people.

I’ll be double jabbed before the middle of September- at that point I am personally done worrying about this from a personal health point. Will I be concerned about future restrictions? Yes, but I can’t do anything about that can I. If Covid cases are on the rise and I CHOOSE to wear a mask, limit my social activity, contact with elderly relatives etc then that is my choice and I would encourage everyone to make those choices for themselves. But too many people need the government enforcing restrictions or coming out with mandates so they don’t have to make those adult choices for themselves. And too many double jabbed people are freaking out about things way beyond their control that nothing can actually be done about.
It’s not quite that simple though, is it? Having been fully vaccinated, I haven’t been concerned about my personal health for several months. However, the appalling rate of vaccine uptake here in the US continues to hold us back from returning to normality. Still not allowed to travel to a lot of places around the world. Also, as hospitals continue to fill up with unvaccinated people who could easily have avoided being sick, we inch closer to a situation where limited medical resources cause you to die from something as mundane as appendicitis or injuries from a car wreck simply because there were available hospital beds or doctors to treat you.

Not a fan of the sport but just seen that the isolation nations (Australia/NZ) are trying to get the rugby world cup pushed back. When are they going to understand that covids here forever? Pushing it back a year achieves nothing. There will be covid spread and death in 2022. The world needs to move forward in a manageable and sensible way.

It's why Aus and NZ should be worried, because if not enough of their populations are vaccinated, then when they open up to travel again, then those populations will be weaker and give COVID basically a new breeding ground.

That's how I see it.
I doubt they'll open up before we get to 60+% vaccinated and the way its going now with the vaccine 'Roll Out' being more of a 'Stroll Out'.it'll be Christmas
As they say here - he couldnt run a sausage sizzle.
They've called in troops in Greater Sydney because the police hasnt the manpower to keep people in their local suburbs.
Joe public at their very best yet again

tbf mate I don't think these two things are linked other than people who like bossing others around are still able to find something righteous to do that with (like Brexit, any election, lockdowns etc).

But, in this situation, getting vaccinated is actually the way out of restrictions, isn't it?

It is, but it still doesn’t stop the curtain twitchers taking the moral high ground, with their holier than thou attitude.

Got my second jab last night (8 weeks on the dot since the first) and feeling good. Been no fuss whatsoever.

First time in a supermarket since Freedom Day

Walking around the supermarket it’s noticeable that non mask wearers are almost exclusively the sort of bloke that walks around carrying an invisible pig under each arm because they’re “f-in-hard”

I've generally found the 'types' not wearing masks so far to be kids (i.e. teenagers, no surprise) and, weirdly, mothers with their children. I've found that most other people, including 'young adults', are still wearing them. Myself included.

The troops?

Australia has similar policies to China by the sounds of it.

They'll be welding doors shut soon.

Not quite, but the police cant watch every junction to stop the great unwashed from not playing the lockdown game properly.
there is not enough Pfizer the under 45s and / or plenty CBAd and there are always plenty who think it doesn't apply to me. Which is bad news in suburbs and houses with large multi generational families.

You can't stop the delta variant unfortunately.

I cannot see the lockdown ending any time soon in Sydney.

Just been looking again at the stats for the whole of our area of 103,000 people… 9/10 adults have had 1 jab, 3/4 adults have had 2 jabs. There has been 1 death in the last 4 months. This thing is over If you get the vaccinations……

They really need to release the data they have on how transmissible Covid is by vaccinated people.
The irony is that it is very, very possible that the vaccine turns vaccinated people into bio-weapons targeting the unvaccinated.

If that's true, which I very much suspect it is, it is just further proof that the guy running our Truman Show has a really sick sense of humor.
