Also Italians greet each other differently, the cheek kiss, this possibly caused alot of their issues starting weeks ago. Then they were slow to start taking this seriously combine that with their very old population, this was a bomb and their government lit the fuse.
Those are indeed differences in the countries, but they don't seem to be particularly impacting the statistics, because we are on a pretty much identical curve up to this point, just 2wks behind, as were each country's first cases

Again I'm actually more frustrated with the entire western governments as a whole not acting sooner.

As in back in January. They couldn't have stopped it but we could have been much better prepared. I'm sure of that.
It's the boy who cried wolf, we had SARS and MERS years ago and there was panic but the diseases failed to "live up" to the panic.. simple as that, we got complacent thinking it won't actually be so bad the other 2 panics weren't too bad this will be the same.

That's an OK excuse for Italy. It doesn't wash with us.

The "mitigate" strategy initially was a political choice to let thousands die. We're now behind the curve because they changed their mind after the backlash.

We could and should have been much better prepared, same as the USA should be, but both countries are led by ideological donkeys.

I really, really hope the issue is that it's hit London hardest first.

But the bold bit... that I think will be the issue, and why the likes of Vallance and Whitty need holding to account once this is done.
On the BBC web-site you can check how many cases there are in your area. I'm in Northamptonshire and we have 20 case out of a population of around 750,000. I realise that the number of cases is likely to be higher than that reported, but I still find it comforting to see how low they are around here. Go to www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274 if you want to find out about your area. The Guardian does a similar thing.

Hopefully lessons will be learned, going forward there should be new international laws signed up to by every country, where by the discovery of a new disease puts that entire country on a travel ban no plains boats and all borders closed until it's sorted, nip it right in the bud, any delay in reporting or trying to cover up is met with massive fines.

Your true figure is more likely closer to 500 by now and 1,000 tomorrow. And they are very conservative estimates from me. It could honestly be 10,000 plus.

The under testing of this thing here is going to be astonishing and will be born out by the antibody tests in about 12-18 months.

That's the real danger with this - those who are asymptomatic for around 7-14 days . And that's exactly why anyone who went out on the lash last night and packed pubs need their heads caved in for it, as each one of them will be responsible for more people dying than needed to.

Fixed.
