Having seen those reports on Sky it's not a surprise.

It just looks utterly horrific and it's scary that we are heading down that road at speed.
The one (slight) advantage we have is that - while we didn't take steps like closing restaurants and bars quickly ENOUGH, we did take them earlier (relative to the growth curve) than Italy, who only did so on 12th March.

But it's looking grim, no doubt about that.

And yet people were still out cramming themselves into those bars last night "because it's our last chance before they close"

I really, really hope the issue is that it's hit London hardest first.

But the bold bit... that I think will be the issue, and why the likes of Vallance and Whitty need holding to account once this is done.

they are getting blamed already, albeit mainly by the people who actually took that decision

Here in NZ the authorities are desperately trying to keep ahead of the curve. We've had no deaths yet, around 60 or so cases of COVID-19. We've been advised to avoid all non-essential travel (even domestically), bars and restaurants are still open but with a limit on the number of patrons.

Obviously social distancing rules etc. have been drilled into us, there has been some panic buying in the supermarkets but it hasn't been too bad, I think at this stage most people here are pretty level-headed about things. I guess if it gets to mass-community spread all public places will be closed but thankfully we're not there quite yet. Community libraries, swimming pools, etc. were closed yesterday and of course all events have been cancelled.

Wife and I are about to spend today (Sunday) doing a 13km hike on a Banks Peninsula trail, will be nice to get out and about in the outdoors and get away from the media and all the doom & gloom.

I'm in a WhatsApp group with a load of chaps who I drink with at a local club. It's amazing the amount of offers of help I've received since I said I was self isolating (with partner and child of course). Even just to pick up shopping and stuff.

Times like this bring out the best in your friends, and it is so nice to be a part of. I get the impression it's the same on here, people offering help to some they've never met before. Well done all, and hopefully I can help when I'm out of isolation.

Also Italians greet each other differently, the cheek kiss, this possibly caused alot of their issues starting weeks ago. Then they were slow to start taking this seriously combine that with their very old population, this was a bomb and their government lit the fuse.
