I know mate it is, sorry that was a snappy thing to say. But I just think shouts of being back in lockdown by autumn are a bit daft and just media-driven panic tbhBecause the world is a doomy and gloomy place?
I'm just erring on the pessimistic side because if things come crashing back down again i'm not sure i'm mentally strong enough to deal with that
I don't trust the government to get anything right - so ergo this opening up is going to fail
The 'vast majority' of people probably have been sticking to the rules - just like the 'vast majority' of people that think that the rules that were still in place yesterday were fine to carry on with - rather than pissing 18 months worth of caution up the wall
The link between cases and deaths has really been pushed to its breaking point (in a good way). Hospitalisations are high but still, deaths staying low, vaccines are working - ultimately it's a lot of people who haven't been vaccinated, for one reason or another, who are ending up really struggling. We need to get this vaccine roll out finished and boosters out.
We have to open up at some point and right now is better than the alternative which is, well, never - or it might as well be.
Most people's lives aren't changing that much. There's clubs etc allowed to open and gigs and matches and events back on and those industries desperately needed that. You might not enjoy any of those or some of those but people's livelihoods depend on them and for 18 months they have been told they do not matter. It's not on.
We've got summer weather and school holidays on our side. We've got mass testing. The track and trace needs to change or half of the country will be isolating.
If people want to keep wearing masks they will do. They aren't going to be mandatory forever and they'll be gone before covid is. COVID's here to stay. 'Learning to live with it' isn't keeping huge industries in limbo.
