It said the 21st June lockdown was being put back 2 weeks, I guess it was bull.
I think it will be.
As said previously this is a political decision.
If he puts it back two weeks he thinks he is keeping
everyone happy. It will also allow him to say yet once again
he followed the science when the enquiry finally comes
and they are trying to save their own arses. Apart from the
vaccine roll out this has been a disaster. Even last night you
had ministers making contradictory statements regarding the
21st June. This along with the Portugal fiasco once again demonstrates
just how shambolic and inept this government have been during every
step of the way of this pandemic. I wouldn't pay them in washers.

I think a two-week delay would be pretty sensible - even if it just gives another few million people time to get their first/second jabs and build more immunity.

Had couple of weihenstephaner with friends yesterday, god I miss the feeling. Think next few years will be only about the routines we need and couldn't have...everybody depressed af..

I've several friends that are refusing to have it. For various reasons from the conspiracies to it being untested etc etc...
Aye, the untested factor is the big one. The dholliday household isn't anti-vax: we've had our kid go through all the usual vax-programs, and we've taken the usuals when visiting exotic lands. But mRNA-tech is new, and normally would require a 10-year slow build-up before being released to the masses.

As Covid-19 isn't statistically that dangerous for non-immuno-compromised, non-obese, non-old folk, we have chosen not to take the vaccine for now. Playing a wait-n-see game. It will be interesting to see which freedoms get curtailed because of our decision. Here in Germany it's early days still, but as I posted in the Free Speech thread an actress lost her job for choosing not to get vaccinated...so maybe bumpy times ahead.

I'm not sure about actresses but all healthcare staff should be vaccinated and it should be mandatory unless they have evidence of conditions which prevent vaccination.

Either they get vaccinated or they should be put on leave until they're vaccinated. I do see your point regarding younger people, statistically its extremely unlikely for young people to die but its clear that they have now placed an emphasis on cases rather than hospitalisation so we ideally need everyone to be vaccinated.

You cant force people to get vaccinated for a job.. Even vaccinated people can still carry Covid, in the main the only person they are harming is themselves...

If all healthcare staff are vaccinated it minimises the chances of care home and hospital transmission which is hugely important. Being double vaccinated for an individual is ideal but having vaccinated staff in these industries would also help greatly.

CBA queuing on the NHS site as was just going to be waiting ages, so will book my appointment some time next week probably when it's all died down

i agree there are exceptions: nurses/docs invariably work with obese/old/immuno-compromised patients (the latter of whom may not be able to get vaccinated).

Being a nurse/doc is a calling, it's understandable if vaccinations are seen as compulsory.

For everyone else, in a free society, it should be a choice. Cases are not so relevant if the vast majority aren't hospitalised. It'd be like demanding everyone get the flu jab. Unconscionable!

Why do you think ideally everyone should be vaccinated? Interested in your opinion.

How did Israel manage to get their numbers to 0 when ours are flying back up again?
Probably a combination of them having fully vaccinated 60% of their population (we're in the 40's I think), and the 'Indian variant' having not found its way there in big numbers... yet.
