The government have introduced draconian measure that are totaly unprecented even in war time conditions and they are not
going to let them go easily. Masks, testing, track & trace, WFH, rule of six, social distance, etc. it's all about conditioning. Do exactly what the government say or you will die. George Orwell couldn't have made it up...
You sound like a conspiracy theorist

Interesting to see how the attitude and sentiment is now turning on here.
We are (mostly but not all) a bunch of average people who in the main have
done what was asked and followed the rules. However, it's clear that it's got
to the point that we have had enough and we need normality resumed.
The government really are playing a dangerous game. The Boris 'vaccine bounce'
can come down as easily as it went up. As posters have said, the initial message was
that all of these orders and instructions were put in place to save the NHS and
to save lives. That has happened. However, the majority of the orders and instructions
are still in place. The general public are close to tipping point now. Civil disobedience
could be the result in terms of the general public just start totally ignoring the rules and start
getting on with their lives again. The government need to start feeling which way the
wind is blowing otherwise they will have some serious problems.

This is depressing. Honestly thought we were done with this about a month ago, every time things look good a new variant appears. Will it ever just go away
We’re in a much better place than we were mate, the vaccines still work extremely well after the two doses and our treatments are getting better every day. We’ll get to a place where it is like the flu, just there will be a few bumps along the way.

After I finish work today, I'm going to walk down to my local pub and have a pint with the missus, and this evening we're heading out to the cinema. Tomorrow morning we're getting the train into Liverpool to have some lunch and do a bit of shopping.

Just because we aren't allowed to go to Benidorm for another couple of months doesn't mean we're being imprisoned

So because the arbitrary rules don't affect you then you're fine with them. Cheers, like.

And just shy of 40 million have had at least one dose, which I was under the impression protected one from serious harm from the virus, if not catching it itself.

The vast majority of at risk people in the UK are fully vaccinated. I can't find figures from England but in Scotland 87.5% of everyone who have been hospitalised with covid have been above 45 years old.

According to the BBC article I got the data from a large percentage of under 18 year old hospital admissions were people going to hospital for other reasons such as broken bones but if they test positive they still count as an admission.

And good for you in all honesty.
However, in some ways it proves the point I was making.
You / we have now accepted the rules and instructions as normal.
The conditioning has been successful.
In reality it is far from normal.

Strongly disagree with this.

The UK testing for variants, the resulting detailed analysis and open publishing of results has been unparalleled and has been hugely valuable worldwide.

The base data is very unclear, full of different factors that skew results (surge testing, family housing dynamics, imported cases/community spread, changing rules such masks in schools etc) and extremely fast moving. They are effectively trying to do a jigsaw in the dark on a moving train so it understable they cannot immediately give an answer all wrapped up in a tidy bow which is how the public usually get to see scientific results.

Will they generally lean on the cautious side, yes probably but I’d assume you would too if you were in their position - lives are after all involved and that must be quite an emotional burden to carry.
