I'm not panicking about it but the scientists who advise the government will be. If it keeps rising at similar levels over the next week you can bet they'll be applying pressure regarding June 21st opening.

Still OK down here. Zero infections recorded yesterday and we're now at 3.2 per 100k for the week.
They are going to be watching data like this very closely

I haven't said otherwise, just that getting vaccinated does have other primary benefits which to be fair the lad has clarified. The secondary benefits will come and I like what @grandjoeblue said about the US seating sections etc which sounds very innovative. The vaccine protocols will no doubt come at some stage but will undoubtedly lag behind the PCB tests and other such things both as a logistical issue and a matter of caution, I personally don't have an issue with it though it has cost me quite a bit of time off with family and cost others a bit more.
Aye. Doesn't directly affect me too much (other than no business trips, which were a regular thing), but the wife had a trip booked to Czech to see family, who she hasn't seen since Christmas 2019. Being a nurse she had to book months in advance and hope so it's a bit of a kicker that despite having both doses she can't go.

Ok no green list. Think a few of the Greek islands will make it by 28th June. Rhodes has done 53000 vaccinations (50% of the island give or take) 38000 since 24th May.The majority of those are the 1 jab Johnson and Johnson. Unless there is a new Talacre variant we could be ok.
Talacre variant lol lol

Hope to God you’re right about the islands, cases and deaths falling this week at last in Greece.

Hospital figures - 13 deaths were announced today, down 5 on yesterday and up 2 on last Thursday. 12 deaths were in English hospitals, down 6 on yesterday and up 3 on last week. The 7 day rolling average rises to an even 8

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 18 deaths were announced today, up 6 on yesterday and up 8 on last Thursday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 7.71

For the 60 day cut off, 34 deaths were announced today, up 15 on yesterday and up 19 on last Thursday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 15.57

This is the kind of data we should really be looking at:

The vaccines work and the people most vulnerable to illness and death are extremely well protected. Just looking at daily cases as they rise (from a very low base) tells you very little. We knew cases would rise as we unlock - it's statistically impossible for any other outcome.

All the decisions are being made purely as arse covering measures ahead of an inquiry. No other logic to be found. Their defence will be "we learned as more was known" to shield the incompetence at the start.

There's no other reason for Portugal to be moved back to 'amber'. There's no other reason for any discussion whatsoever about the 21 June date, indeed we should be out of lockdown now. This is simply a case of criminals covering their own arse, building a defence ahead of a court case.

Indeed. When looking at increases too, we're looking at very small numbers in very defined communities (Asian multi-generational households). A jump from 1 to 2 is 100%; a jump from 99 to 100 obviously isn't, so statistically it's important to compare like for like.

The 'panic' is due to the similarities with exponential growth we saw pre-vaccine, but it's clearly very different now.

There's little evidence the spread has affected vaccinated people in any meaningful way, no evidence of immune system evasion. If the entire population miraculously got COVID tomorrow, it'd result in maybe 20,000 more deaths or so I'd guess but certainly not the armageddon it would have been in 2020.

Isn’t the inquiry years out though?

And whilst it was grossly negligent to allow travel from India for so long I’m not quite sure what they would be criminally charged with.

With the care home issue an argument could be made for unlawful death through negligence. Other things like the herd immunity strategy are very suspect.
