Well the Americans have always loved creating divisions between their people, it's the old 'haves' and 'have nots' argument all over again

We tried to skirt around the edge of the virus (Eat Out To Help Out etc) and got stung. We've decided to take a more cautious approach by waiting for all of the adult population to become vaccinated before we cast off the shackles

I for one am glad about the caution - Shame we didn't apply it when we allowed thousands of Indian flights into the country last month

I didn't my point particularly well. I got done as soon as I was eligible, I get the health benefits.

If you're an anti vaxxer here now you can still go the pub etc and even walk around supermarkets maskless by just saying you're exempt.

I think we'll get to July and a decent percentage of adults won't be vaccinated as young people will be of the opinion that theres no massive benefit to them as they perceive the risk to be low.

Don't know, but pretty sure ordering a full english on the algave isn't the primary benefit of getting vaccinated
We have been led to believe that getting vaccinated is what will get us out of this though, so if people have been vaccinated and still can't do stuff, that's not good. And for the record, it's not "just" going to the beach. If we wanted to visit family we can't do that either, despite being vaccinated. We can visit them here, just as we can get a full English in Margate, but somehow crossing an arbitrary border makes the virus behave differently?

Well I agree that we haven't been strict enough in enforcing certain rules (the mask wearing etc)

If adults are refusing to get vaccinated but want to enjoy the benefits of an open economy then I guess the 'Vaccine Passports' are going to have to be introduced pronto - and that's fair enough

Which begs the question, if vaccinations are effective within our island, why would they not be effective outside it? You can travel to Scotland with the vaccine no problem, but not Eire. That's nonsense.
Vaccines are effective are stopping people becoming critically ill - but they won't stop people from carrying and potentially spreading Covid

I guess there are less constraints on local travel because there is a lower chance of a foreign strain being picked up and distributed back into the home population

Its getting a bit bewildering isnt it? Well, more bewildering. Personally, it effects me not one jot, but yesterday Portugal was ok, today its not. Japan were all on top of it we were all told, now, their population dont want the Tokyo Olympics to go ahead, but they will, cos of $$$$.

I haven't said otherwise, just that getting vaccinated does have other primary benefits which to be fair the lad has clarified. The secondary benefits will come and I like what @grandjoeblue said about the US seating sections etc which sounds very innovative. The vaccine protocols will no doubt come at some stage but will undoubtedly lag behind the PCB tests and other such things both as a logistical issue and a matter of caution, I personally don't have an issue with it though it has cost me quite a bit of time off with family and cost others a bit more.

Wondered why the covid figures were delayed today. Just come through now, new infections 5274 after nearly 4.5k yesterday.

See what happens over the next few days but the North West seems to be rising fast.

And yet hospitalisations and deaths are still on the floor and not budging, which are the only figures we need to be concentrating on.

I'm not panicking about it but the scientists who advise the government will be. If it keeps rising at similar levels over the next week you can bet they'll be applying pressure regarding June 21st opening.

Still OK down here. Zero infections recorded yesterday and we're now at 3.2 per 100k for the week.
