Good news, a case of a woman with Vaccine- induced clotting (called here VIPIT) has been successfully treated with IVIG, (intravenous immunoglobulins).

‘We conclude that early initiation of VIPIT treatment results in a swift response’

I see the French company Valneva, which is producing vaccinations up in Scotland (because we put the money in) is dropping negotiations with the Eu because they are proving too difficult. Instead they are going to discuss supply with each Eu country individually and obviously further afield.....

Hospital figures - 28 deaths were announced today, down 8 on yesterday and down 1 on last Wednesday. 25 deaths were in English hospitals, down 9 on yesterday and down 1 on last week. The 7 day rolling average falls slightly to 24.29

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 20 deaths were announced today, down 13 on yesterday and down 18 on last Wednesday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 23.71

For the 60 day cut off, 73 deaths were announced today, down 4 on yesterday’s late revealed total of 77, and down 44 on last Wednesday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 57.57

Very interesting, any link to the full article?

The graphs are actually pulled from study’s into the initial effectiveness of each vaccine.

A suspicious mind would wonder why, one vaccine is two shots and the other one.

I think it’s more the EU entering into a Sweetheart mega deal with Pfizer/Biontech for the next two years.

Adagio a biotech startup have raised 336 mill for the R&D of its ADG20 candidate showing positive early signs of being effective against all known variants of SARS-CoV-2 but, also effective against some coronaviruses that are still in animals (bats) and haven’t spilled over to humans yet

I may be misreading but I think almost all the people still got 2 shots in the Pfizer trial - Figure 1 just has 304 of the 18000 enrolled who did not get the second shot.

I think that “date from dose 1“ just doesn’t mark the second jab so isn’t an apples to apples comparison with one shot JnJ.

Although the vaccines performed well, hard not to notice these two bits in the report - only 52 % of the healthcare workers were vaccinated and the index case occurred in an unvaccinated, symptomatic HCP that ended up infecting around 50 people.

Since it was in Jan/Feb perhaps a higher percentage of the staff would now be vaccinated but, especially here in the US, there have been lots of reports of low uptake among nursing staff. Going to habe to be quite a communications push to encourage those still hesitant to get vaccinated.

You could be right and perhaps I am misreading and not accounting for the 21 day second dose not marked. Its made me a bit reflective though of the two dose strategy, in the study first dose protection is somewhere between 50%-90% odd depending on who is vaccinated.

An anecdotal study was done in Sheba Medical Center vaccinating its nearly 10,000 staff members with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccination there started Dec. 19, 2020, which coincided with the third wave of COVID-19 in Israel. The researchers looked to see the rate of reduction in SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 disease after vaccination. By Jan. 24, 2021, 7,214 health care workers there had received a first dose, and 6,037 had received the second dose.

Altogether, there were 170 cases of infection between Dec. 19, 2020, and Jan. 24, 2021. Of those, 89 people, or 52%, were unvaccinated; 78 people, or 46%, tested positive after the first dose; and three, or 2%, tested positive after the second dose. Which mirrors the initial Pfizer data of the first dose.

Using the data from the published study of the Pfizer vaccine, Public Health England determined that vaccine efficacy was 89%for 15-21 days after dose 1 – and before dose 2 on day 21. The range was between 52% and 97%. For days 15-28, or up to the first week after the second dose, protection from the first dose was estimated at 91%. The range for this was between 74% and 97%. A second dose would not be expected to confer immunity within that time.

I find it quite amazing, overall given the context that more data hasn’t emerged either positive or negative on one dose of Pfizer or Moderna and the dosing strategy or data on the declining immunity. Anedotlley in the U.K. the spacing doesn’t seem to have impacted. I’m becoming increasingly questioning of it, when you consider the bed fit of spacing or indeed a single dose, not that I’m reco, ending either - I just find it amazing no clear data has emerged at this point.
