Comparably to the UK population that is similar to us having 15,000 new cases in a day, which we exceeded. Our peak was just under 70,000 in one day. That's the equivalent of India having nearly 1.5 million new cases in a day.. Figures need to be compared properly and not made out to try and scare people..

Fair point, but then you also need to compare testing as a % of comparative population.

It’s mad how quiet this thread is since the news of the super league broke.

I’m not being dismissive when I say this but I honestly wouldn’t even know we were still in a pandemic the way the media coverage has shifted since Sunday.
Greedy Football club owners are nothing like greedy PPE owners or Track and Trace developers, oh noooo, nothing like them at all.

Difference is India are testing a fraction of the quantity that we do. Tests quantities barely matter the positive percentage does. When I last looked its around 30% in Delhi. 19m people with a 30% positive rate. It's probably fair to estimare that it is worse there now than our peak.
We have to wait and see, but declarations of 'worst ever' figures doesn't help and makes people panic.

Personally I don’t think we need to wait and see, sadly I believe there is a lot of evidence (not just case numbers but positively rate, lack of testing, hospital bed occupancy, oxygen supply, inability of many to shield etc) that there is reason to have great concern about India at the moment.

Of course panic is unhelpful but so is denialism which leads to a delay in putting in mitigation measures. And whilst I agree headlines like the below are too sensationalist the situation they describe is very worrying, reminiscent of say New York early last year.

Flights to and from India should be banned completely.. Plus other countries that are having trends of rising figures. But then, we should have done that in April 2020...

I’m sure they haven’t been successful on everything but ”If in doubt do what New Zealand do” has been a pretty decent path to follow on COVID
