Surprised they didn’t set 50 as limit tbh, covid risks still pretty high in that 50-60 cohort

So being reading a bit more of this study from the scientist involved.



I know I am flogging a dead horse here but I really wish there had been a control arm (even if only a small one, say 25% of doses) that had stuck to the 3 week Pfizer schedule to compare the infection rate of the B1117 variant in the partially vaccinated.

Its a bug bear of mine mate, that being “vaccinated” often doesn’t distinguish between fully or partially vaccinated.

In that study they looked at B1117 partially and fully vaccinated. No difference was found in the UK variant’s ability to infect fully vaccinated individuals (after two doses) from old money Covid. However, they found it was more able to infect partially vaccinated individuals than the original.

Ongoing was the last I heard, was a mixed trial with 800 participants, looking specifically at AZ and Pfizer, I believe there is also a trial ongoing with AZ and Sputnik. They started the first one in the middle of Feb, expecting results in the summer.

More of these treatments are needed to compliment the work of the vaccines and we can look forward to making Covid19 a nuisnace like the cold rather than something that's kills millions.

There's a 'complete quack' then at the head of the Departments of Medicine, Epidemiology, Data Science and others at one of the most prestigious universities in the USA. Wow, how's he getting away with that?

I replied and apologised for using that term in a response to someone else. I didn’t look into his background enough and I was wrong.

I stand by my opinion that he has dangerous views on covid though and if we followed his advice we would have a lot more dead.

Tbf it isn’t just politics which, please correct me if I’m wrong, is what you are suggesting.

Current COVID rate is going to a big part as is culture with some countries being more risk adverse than others. As will level of access to vaccines, which vaccines you have most of, age profile of country and vaccine hesitancy.

Also it isn’t like the science on a lot of this is exactly clear cut or the data fully collected - even well respected doctors can disagree on approaches entirely in good faith.

Finished work at half 3 and thought i might pop out for a quick pint outside in the sun.

Queues 30-40 deep outside every pub. The empty tables are all booked and unavailable. People have bought bottles from the shop just to stand in line and drink them in the marathon wait for a table to drink some more.

It's going to be absolute mayhem in a couple of hours.

Decided to just get a few Tyskies and head back to ours.
