Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Random post on Reddit which highlights a concern for me :

It's just very concerning overall how they totally covered this all up here in the UK. The UK has given out the most AZ doses in Europe by far, but there was no mention of blood clot deaths until European countries starting repeatedly raising the issue. Then suddenly the UK announced a few blood clots but no deaths. Then it suddenly jumped to 30 blood clots and a few deaths. Now it's 79 blood clots and 19 deaths. These didn't suddenly happen in the last week, they've just not been telling us.

We would've never have heard of those 19 deaths and we would've been kept in the dark if EU countries hadn't flagged this up. We probably wouldn't have this age restriction now either. How can we trust the government or the NHS on vaccines after this?
I brought that point up a week or two ago. Got laughed at.

There are many alternatives to the contraceptive pill and choosing to take it is entirely up to the individual. It's also not new, there is decades worth of information about it. There are also no threats to your freedom being made if you choose not to take it, and no pressure to take it from what feels like the majority of the country.

It's just a very different issue.
The first part about there being alternatives is very fair, the second about decades worth of information is a little more nuanced especially if you were one of the first women to try some of the lower dose pills when they were released or alternative methods of delivery like implants or injectables.

I’m sorry but the bolded bit seems a tad naive, whilst I myself was fortunate I know multiple friends who felt a great deal of pressure from their partners to take the pill.

You asked how many houselhold would be concerned with the news about AZ's vaccine: I answered millions...which it will be.

How is that "being an arse"?
You made that response to a post in which I was showing genuine concern about my wife's mental state. It showed zero tact and zero empathy. The fact that I have now had to explain that to you shows just how much of an arse you are Dave.

While I accept that women can feel under pressure from their partners, that's pressure from one person. It's not pressure from millions of people, politicians and the media. I just think it's an irrelevant comparison.

Strongly disagree as it seeps into general societal expectations and even if it didn’t pressure from your intimate partner is far harder to ignore.

But will leave it there as we’re far off topic.

WTactualF?!

Go back and read your post.

You asked how many people would be concerned with this development - as your household is tonight?

Showing empathy, I stated "millions, and rightly so"....in order to underline that your wife wasn't alone in her concerns and that she was being rational.

FFS. Try and actually read what's there and not what you think is there.

I think the "rightly so" at the end showed empathy.

Just saying.
Not for me.

I've got a wife who's worried sick about taking a second vaccine, and there's absolutely no reason why she should be. She wasn't worried before but now she is and I know it's going to play on her mind right up until she get's her second dose and there's nothing I can do about it It's just the way she is. Worst case scenario is she has a panic attack when the day arrives. It's happened before.

And Dave pipes up with "she should be worried" or words to that effect. Cheers mate.

I see, my wife just totally refused her vaccine, that's how worried she is, but anyway.
