Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I think it's a daft decision to suspend it. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be investigated, like, but surely there'd need to be a lot more evidence.

There's also a load of people under 30 who have already had the first jab of AZ - like @Connor.

Doesn't really matter for me, I won't be getting whatever jab I'm getting for at least another 2 months, but just seems a bit mad.

CVT occurs normally every year in a very small percentage of people (mainly aged under 50). The incidences of people developing CVT after having the AZ shot do not fall outside the numbers we would expect to see normally.

This is not an issue with the AZ vaccine it’s being driven originally by a political agenda and now being whipped up by the media.

It’s all bullshit and I thought you of all people would be able to see that.
I dont accept that.

This is now detached from any debate over distribution of vaccines and contracts thereof.

Today is a disaster for the world's response to this virus and, in my view, completely unnecessary.

I have no problem with clots being listed as a rare side effect, but to limit the use of the AZ vaccine in a certain age group means confidence in it will plummet now.
I agree mate. I'm not against the principle of excluding a certain demographic but only once they've established a clear cause and effect. At the moment they are still at the don't know stage clearly. All they know is that there is a link. I mean, every stat I've seen so far shows that it effects about 90% women, and many of those are over 30, so why is it everybody under 30?.

I reckon it conveniently just fit's in with our expected vaccine supply stocks. We are now doing the under 50s and second jabs. By the time we get around to the under 30s we expect to have more Pfizer and Moderna doses available to do the under 30s. But by making this announcement we've basically said we think this is dangerous to under 30s. How about the 31 and 32 year olds?.

100% spot on, particularly the bold.

It's nakedly political. I have to assume the UK has decided to play along with it for political reasons with the EU. The timing of it too stinks.

Any information about what they are doing with younger people who've already had their first AZ jab? Still turn up to your 2nd appointment as planned?

"The risk is four people in a million."

Nonsense! They've taken the figure of every case of thrombosis reported and divided it by the number of shots given, and that's it. No attempt to establish cause and effect - they've just assumed every single reported case of thrombosis is a direct result of the vaccine.

This really is outrageous.

Three people in the age group the vaccine has been suspended in have died.

Three.

Comfortably inside the every day incidence rate of thrombosis in the same time period. Absolutely no causal effect proved.

Disgusting.

And why's there a cut off? What's the sudden difference between 30 and 31?

It's mad.

Bowing to media furore before it becomes media pressure.

I'm not one to blame 'the media' for stuff, in general. But in the last month or so, ever since the roadmap was announced, the only stories have been whipped up beyond all measure. Most of them have been shot down, quickly, but this one is the one that's grown and grown.

Investigate the thing by all means and if you've got actual evidence of a causal link, then ban it. But without that, it's just effing daft.

Again, not that it matters for me, just probably means I get injected with Italian gnats piss instead.

Covid itself is the issue for causing blood/clotting issues, there is a large body of evidence that understands this.

AZ update...

Covid causes clots in 10-25% depending on severity and hospitalisation. A very few people out of the 20 million people who have had AZ have clots.

If you’ve had the first, have the second.

Course Change ...Change in preference for under 30’s

I think Van Tam is not coming over well here....

It does. This will destroy vaccine confidence in all age groups, people won't go for second doses, the overall program will be slower and a resurgence of the virus will happen.

It's a disaster.
