So the solution was to go with a company that had never made a vaccine and now be in this situation?

What great foresight by the UK Government.

The UK's contribution to the fight against Covid19 so far:

1/ produce a vaccine that's killing some people
2/ create a variant that's killing hundreds of thousand the world over
3/ host the Euros when Europe is going through a 3rd wave of infections

....and Starmer is trailing this lot by 10 points.
Dave. I've never backed the Oxford decision to go with AZ per se. All I've ever said is that their overriding wish was to have a vaccine produced cheaply so that the whole world could benefit from it. AZ appeared to be their only suitors in this regard.

I thought you, of all the posters on here, would be in tune with this philosophy.

Of course, we all know that, i don't think anyone is daft enough by now to not realise this has been rushed through due to circumstance, we don't have the time to test it for ten years unfortunately unless you want lockdowns to carry on.
No, I'd just like this cerebral embolism threat removed. It's obvioulsy not a great issue with the other vaccines. Should we not expect the same from AZ's?

U.K. govt ordered 17 million doses - that’s enough for 8.5 million people.

Small number in comparison to the other vaccines ordered
They'll have to be kept for the demographic that the scientists are trying to determine are disproportionately affected by the AZ vaccine.

Then why all the manufacturing facilities? Like, you may be correct, and from a standing start, with no experience, they delivered the first (?) vaccine on the planet.

Just be interested in where you claim is evidenced.
From the Financial Times:

An unconventional partner

As the pandemic raged in the spring of 2020, Oxford’s scientists were working to bring a life-saving vaccine to the world at record speed. Needing a partner who could manufacture and distribute it, they auditioned some of the world’s leading vaccine makers, according to people close to the talks.

Oxford wanted to distribute the vaccine to everyone, wherever they lived in the world. Early discussions with the UK’s GlaxoSmithKline foundered and more advanced talks with Merck ended, too, on concern that the US drugmaker would not produce enough to supply the developing world and that the White House would not allow the UK to be supplied first. Merck said it has always made its vaccines and therapeutics available to people who need them around the world and its conversations with Oxford ended cordially in late April.

The Oxford scientists were ultimately sold on Pascal Soriot, AstraZeneca’s urbane Parisian chief executive, whose ability to work almost round the clock through multiple time zones impresses fans and critics alike.

Yet although AstraZeneca is experienced in producing biologic medicines, it lacks its rivals’ grounding in vaccines. Neither the company nor Oxford had ever delivered a vaccine like this to market before — let alone during a deadly pandemic.

They made a choice to go with a company inexperienced at vaccine production instead.

"Less Grounded"

Raise it over what - being factually correct?
It's not actually factually correct though Dave.

What is factually correct is that there is a link between the AZ vaccine and a number (an extremely small number percentage wise) of rare blood clot cases. It is not known that the vaccine is the cause of those deaths.

There are millions of people in this country who are frightened of taking the vaccine, and that post of yours could convince somebody on here not to have it. There's a risk that person may contract covid and subsequently be seriously ill or even die from it. The post was grossly irresponsible at best.

You've made similar posts in here and I too am surprised that you haven't been warned to stop.

What we can agree on is more important than what we cant: the investigation into AZ must continue and the people their vaccine are damaghing disproportionatley miust be refined in order that they can avoid being given it.
