More will become ill and die , mental illness will get worse and worse because the NHS backlog will not be able to cope cancer , kidney transplants are being halted already all because of a virus that kills 0.2 per cent of those have it , its all bit strange isnt it

We also have lowest ICU beds per population compared to many other countries of comparative wealth. In fact many countries less wealthy than the UK have better critical Ill provision.
I heard the vast majority of those ICU beds were in private hospitals and only available to (and paid for) those with private medical insurance. Or is that just Tory propaganda?

Would love to know what Data Sky are using to determine that the R is above 1.

Yep, the numbers drop every day. That R number was good for explaining when everything was bad, but it was always a guesstimate. Infection rate is real but depends on the number of tests, and the U.K. tests are way above anyone else at over 1 million per day. Deaths is an absolute number, the Number in hospitals gives a decent indication of progress also. I can’t take the R number at between this and that seriously anymore......the data is pretty clear as to what is happening, and things are getting better......

Hospital figures - 51 deaths were announced today, the same total as yesterday and 5 down on last Friday. 43 deaths were in English hospitals, the same total as both yesterday and last week. The 7 day rolling average falls to 44.86

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 52 deaths were announced today, up 11 on yesterday and down 18 on last Friday. The 7 day rolling average falls to an even 43

For the 60 day cut off, 147 deaths were announced today, up 59 on yesterday and down 38 on last Friday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 100.71

You do, but there are better ways of doing it (certainly there are better ways of doing it that aren't as easily scammed) and the government has been telling people they can travel - including to these places.

What better way?

It's a pretty crap situation.

They've been advising against any unessential travel. And if you land back in the UK from anywhere (unless it's for very specific work I imagine), you have to quarantine at home (and pay for the tests to be sent to you) or in a hotel if the countries are red listed.

“Plague island”. Dear me, your hysterical ramblings trying to create this apocalyptic version of the UK does nobody any favours. Your comparing us to a country that has done hardly any testing, the real number is likely much higher, but let’s not stop us making out the UK is on a path to ruin.
Lol.

Japan's testing? Is that up to the standard you set?

133 million population; 6,000 deaths.

Life expectancy about 7 years lower than the UK.
Their obesity rate is about 2% whilst ours is about 28%.

I'm not disagreeing with your point by the way. It's just that there are many factors where covid is concerned and we have an older less healthy (in terms of weight) population.
35 v 126,000 - obesity or other demographic differences isn't cutting it as an explanation for that.

It's down to attitude to suppression and the discipline required to suppress.

No.
But for the measures the kill rate would have been much higher.
