Why is that logistically not sustainable? Its already sustainable and lets face it logistics will only be improved over time with more factories in various countries and production capacity massively increased. In future its likely that the jabs will be done at the same time.

The numbers that Whitty mentioned relate to people having no vaccine and some having a poor immune response but deaths are still going to be reduced by over 95% or more.

Are you actually suggesting that washing hands etc is a better solution than a vaccination? Ridiculous.

Don’t do it to yourself mate lol

No, I said social distancing + mask wearing + washing hands + track and trace (real track and trace not this murderous shower's track and trace) are much more successful than the vaccines in preventing loss of life.

Go and look at the fatality rate of Eastern nations like Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Korea and Japan.

You cant keep giving people vaccine every time a variant arrives.
The good news Dave is that scientists are working on a new universal vaccine which will hopefully be effective against all strains of covid. Apparently it works by attacking the core of the virus rather than the spike proteins (whatever that means). Tests have been successful on mice and they are about to start tests on humans, so it could be available early next year.

The bad news is that the research is being done at Nottingham University along with UK company Scancell, a cancer research specialist. Word is they are having trouble finding a new form of super gnat to provide the piss.

It will take years.
Imagine being in a football ground sat / stood right next each to other all shouting and singing, then jumping up and hugging a stranger next to you when a goal is scored? No, me neither. It will be a long, long time before we ever get back to what we used to consider being normal.
Imagine going to a hot and sweaty night club, dancing the night away with this super fit young lady, going back to her place where she drags your clothes off and bounces all over you for the rest of the night.

No, me neither.

Night clubs... I've been swerving those for a good few years before covid... I do miss the cinema though, last thing i saw in the cinema was 1917 a good flick.

In the Philippines, the word on the street about CoronaVac is that it’s reserved for ordinary people while the privileged get the more efficacious vaccines. This is worth noting as the media celebrates Chile’s success in running a vaccination campaign almost entirely with CoronaVac.

Replace the word Phillippines with United Kingdom and Coronavac with AstraZenica and you have our situation here.

All of those nations need the vaccine.

End goal is immunity, or as much as poss.

Vaccines are a massive part of the answer, or there wouldn't have been such a rush to make them.

We can carry on doing all of the other things and likely will do. But if people aren't vaccinated against the illness, it'd still get them.

As it is, the vaccines severely reduce risk of hospitalisation or even serious illness from COVID.

It looks highly likely that, going forward, covid deaths will be lower than flu deaths have historically been due to the success of the vaccines.

What’s the situation here?

We committed to buy multiple vaccines.

The one developed here (Oxford) is the one that we produce here so access is easier. It is safe and effective (proven). If a vaccine prevents death in someone who would have died then that is a success (does this to almost 100%). It costs a fraction of the others and will be able to save more lives because of that. It can be easily stored and transported. It's a marvel of scientific achievement.
