What I think will be the worry in the near future is people's mindset ,my missus mum and dad had two vaccines both in their eightees but still worried when someone who's been close to them in shops and so on .keep saying they're ok now ,gonna be like this for alot of families I think sad really will we ever get back to normal maybe not:(
It will take years.
Imagine being in a football ground sat / stood right next each to other all shouting and singing, then jumping up and hugging a stranger next to you when a goal is scored? No, me neither. It will be a long, long time before we ever get back to what we used to consider being normal.

Matter of time before that protein called E or something or other, evades current vaccine. And already going to be boosters for older people come autumn.

Awful, to read people mocking friends and family who have had vaccine and are still cautious, that's what the science is saying exactly how to behave. Must just be for internet larfs.
They are clowns. Clueless people who aren't in a vulnerable group who - in all honesty - dont give a flying one about anything apart from throwing some ale down their stupid 'kin necks and doing what they want regardless of the danger to others.

And they are working on a single jab that will combine covid and flu, annually.
That would be ideal, and get to a point where it can be administered at the local pharmacy. In Ireland there was almost 2 million flue vaccines administered over 2 months at the start of winter. That's what it will be like from maybe not this year but certainly next year.. there will also likely be a course of tablets that will stop you getting a serious illness from covid.. it's here to stay but wont remain a serious threat for much longer.

Why not they do it every year with flu. It may not even be needed for every variant. Every year theres millions upon millions of flu vaccines given mainly to the vunerable and the rest of us just get on with things. That's how this will eventually pan out.
The variants will outstrip the vaccine.

The way things are shaping up we'll be seeing 3/4 vaccine shots per year for Covid19 given the way it can mutate. Logistically it'as almost impossible to keep on top of, and physically - how can we ask 80 year olds to get 3/4 vaccines per year?

The only way to get on top of covid19 is to be disciplined and remain socially distanced, mask wearing, wash hands regularly and have a vigilant track and trace system that imposes a lot more control over people who contract the virus than it does now.

Vaccines will take the edge off the surges, they wont prevent them.

None of your post is based on science.

Not every varient will require a new vaccine, eventually a new varient will appear that will be extremely contagious but not sever it will become dominant and be no worse than a cold, there's 7 corona viruses in circulation in humans causing common cold and all likley started by killing loads there's no reason to suggest otherwise for this one..

Isn't it?

Maybe people like Whitty have it wrong?

We aleady have 3 vaccine shots now for thr over-70s plus a flu jab. Fact.

Logistically that is unsustainable. Fact.

We need to keep social distance, wear masks and wash hands regularly to prevent surges. Fact.

Track and trace is essential and proves it in the Eastern nations. Fact.

The vaccines will help, but they are not a panacea. Fact.

...perhaps you've read differently?

No, it wont. But the variants are multiple and they already produced the Brazillian and SA variety which compromise the vaccines we have now.

I read that in a Rafael Benitez voice.

Why is that logistically not sustainable? Its already sustainable and lets face it logistics will only be improved over time with more factories in various countries and production capacity massively increased. In future its likely that the jabs will be done at the same time.

The numbers that Whitty mentioned relate to people having no vaccine and some having a poor immune response but deaths are still going to be reduced by over 95% or more.

Are you actually suggesting that washing hands etc is a better solution than a vaccination? Ridiculous.
