Denmark planning to open up gradually once all over 50s are vaccinated.

Many countries will be able to do this because response in managing COVID was good always been good.

Numbers of death are falling like a brick in the UK, however, just defines how rampant COVID was before vaccine program here in the UK despite world beating this and that and the kitchen sink.

This blanket coverage of “one year on” the BBC are doing is nothing short of depressing. I bet the presser tonight will be nothing short of depressing also.
Was listening to radio merseyside at dinner time, they said we'll be having an uplifting piece after the minutes silence to remember the last year and cheer and inspire you up again...

Christ I felt the crapest I have in months by he end of it. They managed to make George Harrisons happy upbeat song 'here comes the sun' into depressing funeral dirge, whilst also qetting ole squwauky gob herself, the talentless Clair Sweeney to massacre some insipid depressing poem.
Plus loads of praise for God jammed in for good measure (like he's done anything, better praying to santa who's much more believable)
Alongside a list of no-mark poets, singers etc... who Merseyside roll out that nobody outside 40 the self imagined culture vultures of the local community have ever heard off...
Utterly depressing

Was there a special dedication for @davek at the end of it ?

Hospital figures - 99 deaths were announced today, up 50 on yesterday and down 4 on last Tuesday. 98 deaths were in English hospitals, up 50 on yesterday and down 3 on last week. The 7 day rolling average falls to 83.14

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 112 deaths were announced today, up 95 on yesterday and up 2 on last Tuesday. The 7 day rolling average rises very slightly to 84.86

For the 60 day cut off, 233 deaths were announced today, up 199 on yesterday and up 2 on last Tuesday. The 7 day rolling average rises very slightly to 173.14

More specific here.

The Oxford vaccine is a great vaccine - I've always said it. I think that is beyond question.

I can distinguish between the Oxford vaccine and AZ as a company.

AZ have been very sloppy throughout this as a partnering company and this is just another example, i think its to big of a job for them, they are continuously dropping the ball.
I said earlier when you posted the original link that it was very light on detail. Lots of could's and may's.

Well now AZ have posted a response we can see that the AZ report yesterday was actually an interim analysis based on a pre-determined cut-off date of 17 February. I'm not sure whether the DSMB were aware of that and maybe that's why they said that the findings may have been outdated. But in fairness to AZ they made that point clear in their announcement yesterday and most decent media outlets also picked up on it to (but no mention of it in the BBC article I saw). Anyway, the DSMB harboured concerns, which is absolutely OK, and relayed that information to both AZ and to the NIAID, also absolutely OK.

What isn't absolutely OK is that the NIAID decided to make a public announcement, in the early hours of the morning FFS, to let the whole world know what was happening resulting in the AZ share price taking big hits both here and the US. What's more the guy from the London School of Tropical Medicine says these things are usually dealt with privately, and that the NIAID statement was, in his words, totally unprecedented.

AZ actually has all the data now and is working hard to put it together within the next 48 hours, which will hopefully resolve things and get the vaccine authorised in the US. But I'm really starting to think there's some sort of worldwide conspiracy to discredit the AZ/Oxford vaccine and I'm wondering if it's anything to do with then fact that it is the only one being provided to the world at cost.

On a different note it's clear you have some issues with AZ and I'm not sure if this is specifically to do with this vaccine or if it's a more longstanding beef. And I agree that their performance so far hasn't been great, possibly because they aren't vaccine specialists. But it has to be said that Oxford were looking for a specific kind of partner in this venture, and that is somebody who is willing to forego massive profits and roll this out to the world at cost. And guess what. They weren't exactly overcome with potential suitors. Now you accused me of white knighting when I brought this up yesterday so I'll ask you a direct question. Can you see an end to this worldwide pandemic whilst upwards of 90% of the worlds vaccine supply is being produced at massive profits?

Reporting backlog hopefully, Wednesday is always the worse day. This time last week we had 175 deaths from Monday and Tuesday combined, this same time we have 129 after Tuesday. There was a similar backlog last week Monday giving us 64 deaths, one down on the Monday before. Seeing we had 17 deaths yesterday and a huge comedown on the aforementioned 64, it’s really not all that suprising at the 112 today.

Good news on currently infected people; it drops yet again to 468,362, IF Worldometer is using accurate and reliable sources.

The 64 was also an inflated number due to backlog reporting.

I agree with the first three paragraphs as the day has gone I've deconstructed it and that a fair analysis mate, we will wait for clarification in the next 48 hours. Its always AZ there is problem with though, maybe you are right and its a global conspiracy, maybe there is a conscious or unconscious bias, maybe there is some justification there in a less rigorous approach in competency - its all open to opinion really. Our opinions dont meet on them as a company.

My own opinion and i have no problem sharing it is, i dont think they are a very competent company for something required in this scale - or maybe the scale of what they have taken on is beyond them is fairer, thats based on a number of things and i think everyone knows the issue in initial research, dosing, regulation, manufacturing, and again other issues, they are well documented, it just seems errors are repetitive, avoidable and always AZ.

I honestly dont want my opinion on AZ confused with the vaccine, because its a wonderful one, i think its let down by working with AZ - you know my opinions on the genesis of that collaboration to and we wont agree on that either. But that's fine, i enjoy reading contradicting opinions and the one you posted yesterday as i said was very thought provoking.
