The UK not sounding too good either, basically saying send us what we are contracted to get while Europe get less than 30% of their contract, sounds alot like.. we want a healthy 32 year old in stoke to be vaccinated before a 75 year old in Rome.
Vaccines exported..
USA 4 million
EU 38 million
UK 0
My father is 73 years old, still no word on when he might get his vaccine, theres people half his age in UK already done, and 1in 3 of those were done by a vaccine sent to UK out of Europe.

The EU has about 450 million people. Each one requiring 2 doses, so 900 million required. They are looking at starting a vaccine trade war over less than 20 million doses. Do the maths. This is not about doses, it’s about incompetence and saving the political skins and jobs of VDL, Macron and Merkels party....your dad, assuming he’s in the EU is being taken for a mug and I mean no disrespect because everyone in the EU is being badly let down by the three people I mention.....

Other than for work or people flying in for family reasons, I can’t think why anyone would be flying ?

My Brother in Law is a captain at BA. He was busy early in this with repatriation flights, but in this lock down, is given enough to maintain his minimum air miles requirement. Hardly any in other words.

 Err... it's incredibly complicated.

If we ban all travel how do you think we are going to feed the country? Our food needs to be delivered by... people, believe it or not. Foreign people. From Europe. And it's not just food, what about raw materials, energy, machinery etc etc etc?

Sure, we can stop all 'non-essential' travel, but it's fair to say that nobody is coming to the UK on holiday right now... so that's not going to change much.
Foreign people. From Europe you say!

EU leaders undermining the vaccine without good cause (primarily before this latest pause) were totally irresponsible. While it's always right to be cautious and test for concerns on any serious side effects, some leaders first instincts are to be publicly critical and raising highly dubious 'quasi-facts' as if true. To play on an already sceptical public in the face of a rampant pandemic is contemptible and what makes Macron stand out as particularly culpable.

The recent pause was far more understandable even if still ill advised considering the rapidly increasing R rate in some countries. The vaccine may well have triggered an autoimmune reaction causing blood to clot in the brain, which would offer an explanation for isolated incidents but these were extremely rare. The investigation was primarily aimed at whether there was any similarity between cases and whether the roll out could and should be tailored accordingly.

I honestly have no idea what our current restrictions regarding overseas travel are, but if we haven't, now would be a great time to close the borders.
My lad works in air traffic control at Liverpool only 1 or 2 flights aday some cargo flights and some planes taking off and landing to keep the planes and pilots licensed.
Its getting abit desperate if things don't change soon jobs wise and possibly airport wise .

Hospital figures - 49 deaths were announced today, the exact same figure as yesterday and 31 down on last Monday. 48 deaths were in English hospitals, up 13 on yesterday and down 28 on last week. The 7 day rolling average falls to 83.71

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 17 deaths were announced today, down 16 on yesterday and down 47 on last Monday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 84.57

For the 60 day cut off, 34 deaths were announced today, down 12 on yesterday and down 61 on last Monday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 172.86

Firstly, we started vaccinating in the UK nearly a month earlier than you did in countries covered by the EU. That was your decision. Every country within the EU had the same autonomy as the UK did to grant an emergency license, but we were the only ones that did.

Secondly, the UK is adopting a completely different vaccination strategy to Europe in that we are getting as many as people as possible given their first dose as quickly as possible. It's a calculated scientifically driven gamble and involves giving the second dose after 12 weeks rather than 3. Had you adopted the same strategy then perhaps your father may well have had his first injection by now. Anyway, the over 50s and health workers are all expected to have had their first jab by the middle of April. If anybody healthy aged 32 who is not a health worker has already had their first jab, they are extremely lucky and would most likely have benefitted from being in the right place at the right time.

Thirdly, the USA are now manufacturing more than 130m doses a month. and have a population of 330m. The EU area are manufacturing over 120m doses a month and have a total population of around 440m. The UK is manufacturing less than 10m doses per month and has a population of just under 70m. So both the EU and USA are producing substantially more vaccine doses per head of population than the UK is, but we're suddenly becoming the bad guys here for not exporting any. It's a f'kin joke.
