Firstly, we started vaccinating in the UK nearly a month earlier than you did in countries covered by the EU. That was your decision. Every country within the EU had the same autonomy as the UK did to grant an emergency license, but we were the only ones that did.

Secondly, the UK is adopting a completely different vaccination strategy to Europe in that we are getting as many as people as possible given their first dose as quickly as possible. It's a calculated scientifically driven gamble and involves giving the second dose after 12 weeks rather than 3. Had you adopted the same strategy then perhaps your father may well have had his first injection by now. Anyway, the over 50s and health workers are all expected to have had their first jab by the middle of April. If anybody healthy aged 32 who is not a health worker has already had their first jab, they are extremely lucky and would most likely have benefitted from being in the right place at the right time.

Thirdly, the USA are now manufacturing more than 130m doses a month. and have a population of 330m. The EU area are manufacturing over 120m doses a month and have a total population of around 440m. The UK is manufacturing less than 10m doses per month and has a population of just under 70m. So both the EU and USA are producing substantially more vaccine doses per head of population than the UK is, but we're suddenly becoming the bad guys here for not exporting any. It's a f'kin joke.

Nobody is saying it's because you are not exporting that is the issue, it's demanding that companies fulfill their contracts to the UK which has been done, EU have gotten less than 30% of what was committed in contracts.
UK screaming that contracts have to be honoured even at the cost of other contracts for other areas not being honoured.
Then you have Borris giving his speech that the UK has vaccinated more people than every country in the EU combined, but failing to mention that 1 in 3 of those vaccinated in the UK were vaccinated with a vaccine produced in the EU.
You are not the bad guys because you are not exporting, your the bad guys for wanting your healthy population vaccinated before vulnerable populace in other countries, and quite happily importing vaccine from the EU who currently needs it more as the people most in need of it don't all have it yet.

No, I don't believe him to be a racist - on the basis of that post alone, no-one could say that anyone was. I don't know anything about @Leylo, so to go around throwing that allegation around on basically no evidence would be daft. I thought the post might be, and have given the reasons why I think that.

TBF I think the problem here is that many people are kind of focused on this idea of "narratives" (or bias) as if that invalidates what someone's argument is, and then play that card as an alternative to actually reading and understanding what was said.

I'd accept that if it wasn't for the fact that, when he responded with "you know what I meant" ( in other words denying he meant it as racist) your response was "I know exactly what you meant". When it should have been something like, "fair enough, it's just the way it came across. You need to be more careful in future". I pulled him up on it too and he came back with OK I see that now, point taken.

There will be some impact of lock down, (ish), but for a year we have had slow graphs down, when things went down. Circa 35000 to 5000 ish in 8 weeks is either a massive slice of luck, or vaxtastic.

Nikki had hers at home today, shaking like a leaf bless her, but made up now I showed her that graph. As an aside, I realised it was the first human being she had spoken to in person in 13 months, other than me. And she is pretty bored by me now.

We are not the ‘bad guys’ in any shape or form. The EU cocked up and now they are trying to drag us down with them....

Which is why the UK government is so panicked over the potential ban.. the calculated gamble they took could well be seriously harmed by a ban.

Not really, there is vaccine for those already done. We may ‘pause’ for a few weeks before all the kids get done, but at least everyone over 50 and those with existing conditions will be covered.....

The district nurse surprised us by saying to her " The last time I saw you was with that dental infection issue", (She had that diagnosed in Hospital), "How did that go?"

"Well" she said, "It led to 4 hypoxic cardiacs hence the home visit"

"After all that, its a miracle you are still here"

And remember, those cases come from a test regime X10 greater than Germany’s. We do over 9 million per week. As a percentage of tests our numbers barely register.....

"in other words" doing a lot of heavy lifting there; I didn't know what else the meaning of that could be (and still don't, tbh - but I accept he's said it wasn't intended that way).

It just seems a bit mad though that we've had all this debate when everyone - him, you, me - agrees that the original post could have been read that way.

There's some divvies kncoking about who think the vaccines are a panacea and doing all the heavy lifting in redcucing the case rate.

The'll be the one's scratching their heads when the case rate starts going up again shortly.

I honestly have no idea what our current restrictions regarding overseas travel are, but if we haven't, now would be a great time to close the borders.
