There's some divvies kncoking about who think the vaccines are a panacea and doing all the heavy lifting in redcucing the case rate.

The'll be the one's scratching their heads when the case rate starts going up again shortly.
I mean we have been locked down for months, but a week after we start the vaccination program the hospital numbers go down?

But yeah, its all lockdowns.

Oh Dave.

Nobody is saying it's because you are not exporting that is the issue, it's demanding that companies fulfill their contracts to the UK which has been done, EU have gotten less than 30% of what was committed in contracts.
UK screaming that contracts have to be honoured even at the cost of other contracts for other areas not being honoured.
Then you have Borris giving his speech that the UK has vaccinated more people than every country in the EU combined, but failing to mention that 1 in 3 of those vaccinated in the UK were vaccinated with a vaccine produced in the EU.
You are not the bad guys because you are not exporting, your the bad guys for wanting your healthy population vaccinated before vulnerable populace in other countries, and quite happily importing vaccine from the EU who currently needs it more as the people most in need of it don't all have it yet.
We aren't getting the agreed vaccine dosage from AZ though. The only people saying that are the EU. We are meant to get 70% of our vaccine from AZ and 30% from Pfizer (roughly). At the moment we're getting about 60% from Pfizer, and it's true some of our AZ from the EU too. AZ is well behind in meeting the UK supply too. That's why we are running into a shortfall in supplies next month.EU officials are blowing smoke up your arse to build up anti UK feelings presumably..

Yes Johnson is playing up the UK vaccine programme. But as I said, most of that is down to our strategy not the vaccine numbers per se. Pfizer has increased their output and is now providing 100m jabs a month to the EU alone, more than covering the shortfall in the AZ vaccine, but still VDL is threatening export bans.

It helps to have both. Lockdown bringing the extremely high rate down has been needed, alongside vaccines working to limit the impact of infections.

Mandatory masks in shops has been helpful.

There was never a silver bullet, a range of measures was always needed.

The case rate is insignificant compared to the testing we are doing. If the EU did anything like our number of tests their already horrendous numbers would go through the roof. This is not good. I would seal the borders now......

It‘s all for show.....

Which is why the UK government is so panicked over the potential ban.. the calculated gamble they took could well be seriously harmed by a ban.

You may be just statng a fact but it's hard to get away from the feeling that you're not all that condemnatory of such despicable behaviour.

The irresponsibility of threatening vaccine trade wars at such a time as now with this pandemic once again rampant is truly beyond belief, it's inhumane, selfish recklessness from career politicians and technocrats who have no idea of the damage they cause. It puts any notions of fighting the Covid menace firmly on the back burner while EU politicians strive every sinew to rescue their shattered reputations and throw morality into the toilet.

"in other words" doing a lot of heavy lifting there; I didn't know what else the meaning of that could be (and still don't, tbh - but I accept he's said it wasn't intended that way).

It just seems a bit mad though that we've had all this debate when everyone - him, you, me - agrees that the original post could have been read that way.
It wasn't his original post you responded to. It was his second post (response to Bruce)

If you go back to read his first post as I suggested yesterday, you can see what his true meaning was.

Anyway let's leave it there. We both agree now that he wasn't being intentionally racist. I think.

We are not the ‘bad guys’ in any shape or form. The EU cocked up and now they are trying to drag us down with them....
Sorry you are the good guys for accepting imports of vaccine for healthy people under 50 from EU while the EU hasn't done the vulnerable people yet.. and then brag about doing better.. kopites of the vaccine world!!!!!

EU only threatened to stop exports to places that have more people vaccinated per head of population than the EU. can anyone here give me 1 reason why the EU shouldn't ban exports to UK and USA? Why healthy people under 50 should have access to EU produced vaccine ahead of vulnerable people in the EU.

They can do what they want and reap any consequences....once again they, and you, are looking at the wrong problem. Stopping a few million doses to the U.K. will not only backfire but will do absolutely nothing across the Eu . The Irish leader knows the effect it will have......

.

Of course we've used the Pfizer vaccine in the UK all this has been gone through before - it's AZ being produced on several sites. Logistically and contract wise the EU sites were always earmarked to supply the EU. The British sites Britain. The actual volumes of production were also mentioned in a post above.

Why do you insist on misspelling 'Boris' it's only five letters and seems difficult to misspell? If it's intentional it does seem childish, it's rather like spelling Keir Starmer Keir Stammer.

There will be some impact of lock down, (ish), but for a year we have had slow graphs down, when things went down. Circa 35000 to 5000 ish in 8 weeks is either a massive slice of luck, or vaxtastic.

Nikki had hers at home today, shaking like a leaf bless her, but made up now I showed her that graph. As an aside, I realised it was the first human being she had spoken to in person in 13 months, other than me. And she is pretty bored by me now.
Glad to hear about your Mrs mate, hope she feels ok, not much side effects...
