The Czech good old boys continue to outdo themselves. Hospitals in a number of regions have effectively shut their doors because they have no more beds left and the army have been drafted in to enforce regulations preventing people from leaving their district. Despite that, all the factories remain open :hayee: So you've got the hospital in Mlada Boleslav on the verge of collapse and the sod off great Skoda plant there still operating as normal. What could possibly go wrong?

Yes it is scaremongering Dave. You quote the one publication that agrees with your warped views whilst totallly ignoring the other 19 that state the opposite. The scientific data coming out is overwhelmingly positive as is the general optimism across the U.K. Go and hide behind the settee if you want. It's your life and if you want to live it being negative and miserable that's your call.
Hardly one publication that cautions against seeing a vaccine as a panacea. That's the orthodoxy amongst the scientific community.

Dave. I'd rather wait and see what happens than lose any sleep over your scaremongering. But please carry on preaching to your disciples on here

Like I said a few days ago, he’s moved on from scaremongering about the AZ vaccine and he’s now moved onto scaremongering about opening up again and a massive rise in infections.

If / when this doesn’t happen, he’ll move onto something else, most likely “ killer variants “.

Rinse and repeat.

Of course mutations will thrive in environments were the rates of infection are far higher. There are many, many mutations and the number does keep increasing.

It's best to keep a sense of proportion and perspective though. The only mutations that are in any way concerning are those that show a change of structure to one of the proteins that stick out from the surface of the Covid virus. The vast majority of mutations, 99% show absolutely no significant change to this protein, in all the months, and now well over a year, that the virus has been rampant at huge levels within communities there have been precisely two mutations which have given real concern and three if you include the Kent one too. (The Kent one spreads more quickly but doesn't give more severe levels of illness and can still be vaccinated against to prevent serious symptoms)

My post explained about the surface 'spike' protein - the one the current vaccines rely on to be virtually unchanged (in shape or structure) for them to be effective.

So three in what 14 to 15 months.

We will have a booster vaccination ready for next Autumn which will add the new mutations and a super vaccination using a different methodology of attacking the core virus protein by early next year.

With the summer, warmer weather on the way and levels reducing all the time, the most likely scenario isn't Armageddon or humans being wiped out. That's just sensationalist nonsense and blatant scaremongering.. Of course the battle isn't won and rates across parts of continental Europe do give cause for concern. Only the misguided, obstinate and electioneering Macron is preventing a third but very necessary lockdown in France, repeating the mistakes Britain made and on which he was so publicly critical, but his re-election will take precedence over everything.

Vaccines are the way forward and high take up the only way to stop this virus, the super vaccine holds out promise of it being all but eradicated but until then updated booster shots against the newest virulent strains is the way.

Thanks mate, no doubt someone will be along very soon to tell you that you’re wrong and that if society goes back to any kind of normal, that this time next year the population of U.K. will have been wiped out.

Hospital figures - Due to historical corrections in Scotland, today’s total is 405, without the correction it was 236, this is up 154 on yesterday (15 down without) and 81 up on last Thursday (88 down without). 184 deaths were in English hospitals, down 20 on yesterday and down 70 on last week. The 7 day rolling average rises slightly to 275.29

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 242 deaths were announced today, down 245 on yesterday’s revised figure and 81 down on last Thursday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 279.29

For the 60 day cut off, 370 deaths were announced today, down 315 on yesterday and down 55 on last Thursday. The 7 day rolling average falls to an even 428

6,573 new cases and 242 new deaths today, a drop from this time of last week of 9,985 new cases and 323 new deaths.

The seven day total is for cases 46,796, putting the seven day average at 6,685.

As for hospitals, 757 new admissions related to Covid have been reported today, so we should see another drop-off in existing accommodations.

With something like obesity it really is a difficult discussion about how responsible a government should be for the health of their population- not necessarily in regards to a pandemic caused by a viral disease but in regards to conditions which some would argue are self inflicted.

Really don’t want to start up the gym debate here again but the sooner outdoor sports are back the better with indoor facilities to hopefully follow soon after.

844,161 tests have been done in the whole of the U.K. This gives us a positivity rate of 0.77%.

Italy has also blocked a shipment of the AZ vaccine that was due for Australia.

980,769 active cases according to Worldometer.

First time since December 15th or 16th it’s been below seven figures. It was Feb 1st it reached its peak and then started coming down since.

I do not know exactly what their source is for this, but it says 3,096,564 recoveries have been made.
