Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Yes, because it's all soooo funny isn't it?

No Dave it isn’t. I’ve lost two mates in the last three weeks, one may or may not have been Covid but we don’t yet know. When you get older, see mates dying and get to more funerals than football matches, you need a form of protective barrier to stop you going crazy. Humour, even black humour is a good barrier........

Hopefully it gives the Tories pause for thought in reopening the economy in line with the schedule the putrid Covid *Recovery* Group want to see happen.

This development has to place all reopenings back further....'data not dates' is what the butcher promised, afterall.

Dave, do you believe in a global basic income?

It wasn't a reckless gamble.

Giving twice as many 60% plus immunity (over 90% protection from serious illness) will save lives.

The greater the proportion of people vaccinated the safer we all are.

I agree with most your anti Tory sentiment but the vaccine decision (which was probably beyond Boris's critical thinking skills and not his idea) was a sensible decision.

It's also quite anti Tory. Protection for the many, not the few

Was pioneered by Tony Blair apparently.

Nu Labour genius innovation eh @Blues Harp :coffee:

You know that flu jab we both had, for the first time in my case, probably yours also?

Reckon that was tested on 85 year olds?

Prof Gilbert was confident it would be fine.
She had a conflict of interests.

We needed /n ed to see more data on AZ and older groups. The Scottish data last week is encouraging. Let's have more.

But that doesn't take away from the point that AZ was rolled out here without compelling data to do so for the over-65 groups. It's preposterous to challenge that, unless you believe you know more than the FDA.

Yes of course I do, I have asked a question?

I just think you're a bit OTT on the lockdown.
Exactly, we have thankfully detected this early and can stamp down on it, so it won’t be a problem and won’t make the dates go forward like Dave is saying.

If the Kent variant was found this quickly, it wouldn’t have been anywhere as dominant as it has.

Cannot edit my post above, so apologies for double posting :).

According to this, the selfish Gloucester man has been self isolating, thankfully, so there is good confidence in myself, that this variant won’t be a problem child in the future.

Fauci also echoed earlier warnings from Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC, that it was too soon to be relaxing coronavirus restrictions. Several states have eased mask rules and are reopening some businesses, and rates of new infections and mortality have plateaued after recent drops.

“Once you start pulling back, the thing you don’t want is to have a plateauing at a level that’s so high that, inevitably, things are going to go back up,” he told NBC.

“Our baseline of daily infections now, even though it’s way down from where it was 300,000-plus per day, is down to around 70,000. That baseline’s too high. So it’s really too premature right now to be pulling back too much.”

He also responded to growing calls for schools to reopen, cautioning it could be “earliest the end of the year and very likely the first quarter of 2022” before elementary school-age children could be vaccinated. High schoolers, he said, could start receiving shots in the fall.

Johnson and his fellow butchers are going to walk us right into another blizzard of infections by (AGAIN) reopening too early...and then we'll face even longer lockdowns.

20 million have had a jab.
Over 4 million confirmed positives (likely to be at least double due to the limited testing when this was so new).

Last summer, despite things being quite busy cases and deaths stayed low.

Apart from schools nothing much is changing until April.

I think we might have decisions to make moving into winter but, for now, we can gradually open up.
