Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

It's not though, as your system initially requires people to isolate? You said the other day that a result could take 1-2 days? Well, most people don't have 1-2 days.

Of course, if they are properly ill - can't get out of bed etc - there's a difference. If it's someone with a mild fever (that for them is not serious at all but for somebody else could be very serious) how do you get those people to isolate for that 1-2 days?

That's the issue, for me, with your plan.

Unless, it was very specific symptoms. But, as we've seen with COVID, symptoms vary massively between people.

TBF if you are saying that most people can’t afford (because of the cost or other impacts on them) to have a couple of days sick, *when they are sick*, then surely that reveals quite a bit about this country doesn’t it?

I've been reading from people in the know that take up of the vaccine amongst those in the group who are now eligible has been low, with people not even turning up for appointments. Meanwhile, you've got people who are desperate to get vaccinated so they can get on with their lives. It makes no sense to keep things the way they are - if you want a vaccine then you should be able to book your appointment.

Would say he sounds cautiously optimistic that the vaccines can react well to variants, but no one really knows for sure unless it comes up against said variants.

We will need round 80% of our population vaccinated at any given time against covid otherwise there is the very real risk of vaccine resistant strains emerging sooner rather than later. For comparison Flu vaccination runs at 25%.
His caution stems from the entire world has move in sync with vaccination program.lol

I disagree - whist they’ve got people in the most vulnerable groups still on no or one vaccine, they’ve got to do those first according to the lists.

Opening up appointments now is just going to result in a free-for-all, with those who most need them being the least likely to get one.

Vaccines are being wasted and this is not acceptable and those who are the most vulnerable have already been vaccinated.

We're now just waiting on the boomers and we'd be better off without them anyway...

they’ve not been vaccinated though; there’s 17 million who’ve only had one dose - if people haven’t turned up for their appointment, then surgeries and vaccination centres should be ringing the one dose people who are eligible (ie have waited at least 21 / 28 days, depending on which they were given) and giving them their second jab

Wife had hers two days ago, walk in, she's 60 had spare doses left, she had the Astra Seneca, no side effects or problems. I had mine 20 minutes ago, the Pfizer vaccine, again no problems. They give you a card, which you keep, it has the date and venue of your second dose, ours is the same venue and time.

People are getting their second jabs at the moment. Thankfully.

However for those boomers too stupid to get their first vaccine then they deserve to lose their place/opportunity to people who want it.

According to a report in The Times today almost 95% of people in the UK who have been offered a vaccination to date have had them. This is significantly higher than was expected. I've not read or heard anything to suggest that significant numbers of people are not turning up for their vaccinations as you are suggesting. I know there are reported issues with vaccine take up in other countries but this is not the case for the UK.

This is mostly due to the first prioritisation groups. You'll see that it is dropping in the boomer group.
