No point even waiting til May now - I wasn't far off was I? ;)

Hardly Nostradamus though; politically once the numbers died down restrictions were completely unsustainable.

If anything, I expect them to bring forward opening up in full to 31 May instead of mid-June. There'll be a clamour for it and no political benefit to delaying at that point.

“at the earliest” is the key wording. I hope you’re right mate, nobody wants to live like this anymore.

I’ve had many people say to me things like “Just like 1918 all over again, that lasted two years”.

What they are not realising is that back then the Spanish Flu killed up to 50 million people, many of which were of all ages and in good health, the deaths between the age groups was all equal, while with this one it’s mainly people 60 or over with underlying health conditions. In addition to this, 500 million cases worldwide were found, which was 33 percent of the world’s population at the time.

Since then, technological research into viruses has colossally advanced in those 101-102 years since, allowing scientists to detect mutations and create a vaccine in months that back then took years. I bet Spanish flu had many mutations, but they didn’t have the technology to detect them.

That was probably Dave.....

Even they seem amazed.

Many many months ago, a senior Doctor in an ICU told me that for the last 10 days, they had been battling to keep Mrs R alive. Now, he said, we are preparing her for recovery.

Feels very very similar this.

Will take ages, and not a straight line. But.

The key take I got is...

The vaccine will reduce this to a manageable illness. Some will need to be wary but they expect it to get to the stage where those who need to be wary have to be wary like flu.

Hope the Mrs is ok. I had a spell in ICU myself December 19 and have locked down since.

Today is the most positive I felt in ages. I also felt the wary nature Whitty and Vallance normally display wasn't there today. Sure they believe a major push back is coming on the illness.

By the way, my brother inlaw is a head chef, so I know a fair bit about where they get their food from.

You’re welcome.
I know chefs. I can tell you that you'd never want to shake hands with one never mind eat anything they make. Covid19 would be the least of your worries.
