Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I think the rationale of some protection for the many rather than more protection for the few, particularly in winter was the right choice.

Otherwise we would still be on the over 80s.

I don’t think we would be - the AZ take up would be as it is now (and that seems to be the majority given at this stage), and although we’d have less Pfizer first doses we’d have much better second dose Pfizer numbers.

At a guess 10-12 million 1st doses / 3-5 million second doses by now if it had been done properly sounds reasonable, based on the rates that were achieved with the lot done in December.

So an additional 3-5 million people who would have no protection at all at this time.....

No, what happened is that there was a pre-existing debate between me and someone else about the potential for problems with the 12 week gap, then you posted your figures about Israel that didn't relate to that issue.
Sorry, I didn't realise I was posting it in the Davek Thread. In the future I'll post it in the coronavirus thread and remember not to tag you. Oh wait...

We are in a severe national lockdown pete, where infection rates were always going to fall as the lockdown went on and those people were going to be at least partially protected by the lockdown (just as we all are).

On the other hand, if this doesn’t work, are you going to defend 2.5 - 4.5 million mostly elderly people whose first Pfizer jab has worn off having reduced protection in March and April, right as the country reopens?

Personally, I’d rather have more people with some protection...but that’s just my opinion and nothing to do with who runs the government......

I think you should deduct 12,000 from that number. As the SNP and Welsh Labour make the rules in Scotland & Wales, they should, by your reasoning, be held responsible for those 12,000 deaths........ would you agree?

When he answers, he won’t btw it‘ll still be Boris’ fault, could you ask him who killed/murdered the other 2,300,000 around the rest of the planet......

Decisions. Might be worth giving the 70+, those with underlying health issues and health workers their second jabs as they account for 90% of the deaths. Or a single dose might be enough to reduce transmission. Time will tell. Think the former has more evidence to back it up. But we shall see.

Bullingdon is proven lying piece of filth . even his alleged narrow touch and go escape from death was an stage managed piece of theatre , does anybody seriously believe the top team of doctors would let the privileged pass away you would have to believe in jackanory to sign for that garbage

No, but it’s a bit of a stretch to pretend this is an equal debate - one sides got science and current knowledge on it, and the other doesn’t (at least as of yet).

It might work, and I hope it does, but guessing with so many people’s lives potentially at risk is something that should never pass unquestioned or, if it does fail, unpunished.

True, but if it works and saves thousands of lives they should get credit too.
