Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

You and your missus are a credit mate and hopefully not too far away now from getting the vaccine and another step closer to a bit of normality.

You've both done an amazing stint, now don't go spoiling it by looking for any wild orgies (until its safe to do so and watch out for @ForeverBlue92 as I've got a feeling he'll be on the prowl)

;)

Im not easy - you'll have to pay for my covid test before you get to rattle me lol

In reality, if we want to stay out of lockdowns for good then we have to have a lockdown with greater restrictions running right through this year; an aggressive track and trace system up and running; further adaptations of the vaccines to combat variants; more therapeutics for the vulnerable to survive Covid19 when infected. Extensive lockdowns are required because western populations dont have discipline to change their own behaviour rapidly and decisively when called on to do so and our helathcare systems are then overwhelmed.

Of course, what we need above all else is a change of government and a different philosophy based on the primacy of communal health.

Yes. Sod education, mental well being, economies, livelihoods.

Your going to have to accept the ideal on either side of the argument won't ever be achieved.

2,000 is a lot easier to manage than 20,000. People desperate enough will get around the rules because they wont want to be arsed doing what you suggest. Enough of that activity from people infected and it'll be a super-spreading event.

Clubs will have to adhere to strict guidance. The ballots will be limited to season-ticket holders. Of course it could work.

But that's not this coming calendar year, as @BlueToff believes is possible.

It makes little difference if it is done in September or next May.

You could even reduce the capacity of crowds allowed as the winter came, to keep levels more manageable.

And this isn't a full return to normality. It is a way of seeing what can be done in as safe a manner as possible.

That can all be done with a will to build up a fit for purpose track and trace system (ie employing experts rather than Tory Party donors). The hospitality sector needs mothballing though. There's no safe possibility of reopening indoor drink and food establishments. They are a menace. Not that I expect them to be kept closed: these Tories have donors in the food and drink industry and they'll reopen them by end of spring.

We didn’t even enter our ST’s into the ballots.
My arl fella has had the vaccine though now, so he maybe tempted to next time around, but I doubt it.

In all seriousness, if it was in September, after a summer of full vaccine roll-outs (as in, millions fully vaccinated), lower infection rates, etc etc , why wouldn't you?

It'd be as safe as it's ever going to be?

Or is this more of a 'it'd be too weird to go' - which I completely get btw?

Just wondering. I'm not an ST holder and don't live in the area. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I maybe get to Goodison only once or twice again now before we move to BMD, which is crap, but such is life.

I doubt there'll be crowds at any games again this season apart from, perhaps, a very small relative number at the FA Cup or EFL Cup final and even then I doubt it because it's travel involved.

Each to their own of course, but I won't be putting myself into the ballot again unless the crowds are sizeable and/or it's an important fixture.

The performance being atrocious may have been a part, however it wasn't the same sat by yourself without the bustle and the usual match day experiences.

Going to the match should be an enjoyable experience and the whole rigmarole simply made sure it wasn't; I'll be going to Marine before Goodison Park.

You've just condemned millions of people and thousands of businesses to unemployment and bankruptcy.

Hospitality and leisure is everything from hotels to gyms to football clubs to wedding venues to cinemas to cafes to bars to pubs to coffee shops to restaraunts.

'Mothballing'

Think how many students rely on stuff like that for work to help them get through uni. How many people start up independent chains. It's millions of people. And you just said it all needs mothballing.

Did the big mean barman once call you a nasty word or something Dave?

I totally get that, I think a crowd of 15-20k could be done safely at the right time of year and hopefully they do it. Long way off yet, but if this rate of vaccinations carry on and they work as they are doing, summer is gonna look a lot brighter and August/Sept are realistic targets.

I pretty much specified pubs and restaurants.

And I'd rather people kept their lives rather than others having the opportunity to get pissed and eat crap all day in confined virus spreading places.

Have we learned nothing from summer/autumn 2020? Do we have to have a repeat performance for it to sink in that these places are uncontrollable breeding grounds for infection?

I mean you do know that people don't actually just 'eat crap' in restaurants?

But you know that's not the point. You're just insisting millions of people should give up and find a new trade, a completely new life.

Do you have any idea what it takes to start a business like that, get it off the ground and sustain it?

I'm not sure you acknowledged my point.
This ideal you seek is not realistic and never will be.
Much like the view of opening up everything tomorrow is unrealistic, the view of mothballing a huge industry as well as locking down for another 10 months is as unrealistic.

There isn't a will and there never will be, much like there isn't a will to go right back to normal this very second, if ever.
