I'm 35
Clinically vulnerable
Had the Oxford jab
Someone give me reassurance the jab I've had will give me some normality!
IMO, AZ needs to be withdrawn from the vaccine fightback against the virus for all but the under 50s.
They need to either go back and bring back some plausible data based on a hell of a lot of field work, or they need to tweak their vaccine.
I wouldn’t make that assessment Dave and we’ll soon get a lot more data anyway from the US trial.
There have certainly been errors in their rollout of data (and even in their trials but those have thankfully generated useful data/positive results)I get what you say. But the AZ vaccine has not delivered in terms of data for its vaccine. I get the feeling that there';s a domino effect now working against it (not so much from a medical standpoint, but a PR one). That was of their own making.
I think it will give protection to stop people getting extremely ill - older groups and the vulnerable included. But that company and its scientists have been pretty clueless in getting their message out. I think that all came by political pressure in the UK to get their vaccine in play.
Trials have regular follow up covering mild/severe disease and measuring viral loads and contrasting those with a placebo group. The U.K. are inoculating millions, I’m not quite sure how many is needed for a trial, but I’m sure we’ve done it x100 times over.....
In a way that's what I'm saying: the problem may be more a PR one rather than medical. IMO this is a company that's made a lot of mistakes in that respect. There have certainly been errors in their rollout of data (and even in their trials but those have thankfully generated useful data/positive results)
This SA variant is concerning and certainly calls for more testing/caution but I wouldn’t overreact - this was a very small trial.
There are people on here worried about all this talk about the AZ vaccine as a result of ridiculous comments from Macron and other political prats. We really don’t need other uninformed people on here adding to this fear. If you fear there is an issue, then don’t have it, it’s your choice, but please keep it to yourself. The U.K. MHRA and the EU EMA have categorically stated that it is fine for all age groups. Millions of over 65’s have already had it and guess what, they seem ok. So please, just let it go and perhaps inject a little positivity into the debate instead of constant negativity...it really is helping no one...thanks.....

I agree mate and I'm probably guilty as anyone.
My fear is that the Oxford lot are already working on an update to deal with SA.
Strikes me that there is a worry about it.

I get what you're saying. But equally we dont need people who also have no expertise just cheerleading a vaccine from the sidelines because it happens to fit in with their geo-political philosophy.
You are right though: there are people on here who are in a position whereby they dont know whether the vaccine they've had is going to work....and none of us have a clue other than going by what one expert says...who is then contradicted by another...and so on and so forth.
Itls early days, we just dont know. One vaccine might look like the cat's pyjamas right now only to be seen as a problem later, and vice versa.
