Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Of course we take precautions like we should with Covid19 but there are still many deaths and illnesses yet the country doesn't shut down, again going back to my point that it seems to me we're taking a very extreme response to this. A response which seems to be creating it's own chaos and could end in misery (if this drags on long enough)for lots of people who might be otherwise unefected.

Have responded to all the points in here already, but none seem to have landed, so for that reason, I’m out.

I’m with you on the barricades yelling “get your act together on testing” for both US and UK governments ( or rather words to that effect that I can’t post here!)

Trump spent about 55 days in lock step with Fox/radio/paper right wingers making it out to be a hoax.

Limiting tests is the only reason our numbers were low. We could have gotten ahead of this 6 weeks ago. Criminal that Trump only got seriousy on March 16.

To be honest [Poor language removed] like you should be charged with murder.

Its just wilful disregard for human life.

Let's be honest. We're completely ill prepared for this. It'll take ages to get enough testing kits. They're hoping to ramp up production to 25000 a day. That's only 9 million a year.... A mate of mine is a scientist who's told me the reagents required for the kits are already running out by all accounts.

We don't have near enough ventilators and ICU units in London are already starting to feel the pressure.

A UK wide lockdown is inevitable in the next few days.

We had a 2 week head start on Italy.. and done nothing.
What did we expect ?

Even with the army coming in I'm not sure they have the manpower for that atm.

I'm pretty sure based on what I've read that it seems set to be London first, and then escalated gradually nationwide.

Many businesses around me are shutting down temporarily as it is. A lockdown at this stage may just cause more un-needed panic and chaos.

Most people who can work from home now are. There's no large gatherings. I went to get fuel earlier tonight and all the three pubs I passed were empty bar one or two people – Wednesday night is quiz night at two of them and normally packed.

If the government can avoid a nationwide lockdown for as long as possible then they will do so. London is ahead of the country with this by a few days at least. That's the place which needs the focus first and foremost ultimately.

I really don’t get this school closure action. This will drag the economy into the gutter. They are also saying don’t leave children with aged parents, well I am an aged parent and I will be looking after my granddaughter no matter what they say. We have been bounced into this with the panic from the EU, Wales and Scotland. It is the final lunacy that will break our back........
Then I'd suggest you read the scientific advice.

Which is why I was absolutely baffled by the initial '3-month' prediction of a peak and one which some people are still sticking to (I mentioned when I was on about Glasto earlier even though I concede my points were muddled).

There's no chance this is three months off peaking. It's gonna be weeks, tops.

I can't see a scenario in which most of the people who are going to get this illness (to whatever severity) haven't had it in some capacity by the end of April (still six-and-a-half weeks off).

How about in a scenario were people dont leave their homes?

"What are you going to do ? Shoot me for buying bog rolls ?"

*with knob head mate of his recording the altercation on his mobile phone for Twitter likes.

Seen that earlier.

It obviously impacts everyone in different ways.

It's not just going to hurt the elderly or those with medical conditions but you are more vulnerable if you fall into those categories. Kids so far seem to be the ones who are avoiding serious harm in general (thankfully) - though there will be exceptions I'm sure.

Thing is, it still doesn't equate to more than that 1/100 as things stand which get it that bad. Which is obviously a good thing in general, but awful for that 1 person.

That video is scary to see and I feel for her and her family and anyone going through the pain of having it that severely (and anyone who ends up having it that badly).

On another note, my three-year-old cousin has been coughing non-stop and had a runny nose for the past two days so now him, his mum, dad and sister are obviously all in their house for the foreseeable. But he hasn't got any other symptoms, seems well and only had his flu jab on Monday.

Of course he can't get tested, so there's no way to tell for sure. His mum and dad both now can't work and though the gov will sort it it's obviously a huge worry and stress for them both.

Also, he's three. Runny noses and coughs aren't uncommon and he had a flu jab two days ago. So it's so hard to tell if he actually has it or not. But obviously they're following the advice.
