The vaccination numbers have been pitiful the last few days as well.

Who would have thought that the target would be missed?
Lad, give your head a wobble.

The vaccination numbers really are the only thing we can praise anybody in charge for atm (and I don't mean say how brilliant they are, but we're not doing bad).

We're hitting 300-340k per-day. Think it was @Brennan who pointed out the logistics behind that alone. The vaccine centres are opening up across the country and the take up is at 85%. I imagine every single person knows at least as many people - if not more - that have now had their first dose (at least) as have definitely had COVID.

What do you mean 'who would have thought that target would have been missed'?

As of Jan 4th, the day the latest measures were announced, we had to vaccinate approx 13.5m people to hit the mid-Feb target. They even said it would take everything to go perfectly for that to happen. And we're not actually going to be far off if this rate continues.

@navidson

Sorry, it was Jan 9th that the peak in cases (top right graph) was.

I imagine we're in for one more spike in deaths. It'll rise this week, drop at the weekend, and then spike again next Tuesday/Wednesday.

Thats my thing as well.

I would love to know where folk are catching it. Like there are always tits who do the wrong thing, but in the main, most follow the rules. And it cant be down to Christmas, surely?

Bewildering.
Would have been a schools too, they were still open just before Christmas, factor in the asymptomatic super spreader, incubation to transmission, time to develop Covid and then become seriously ill. Still in that time frame from that period.

People asking for the source of the second wave surge...

....it's this 'kin clown, of course....

I know the lag - but why would the numbers be biggest at the start of Jan?

Well, if families mixed over Xmas. Some areas still in Tier 2. A lot of people who went home for Xmas travelling back across the country (i.e. people who live in London or Leeds or wherever travelling back to their parents' houses).

It was also the middle of winter. It is the middle of winter. People's immune systems are weaker, people are more likely to spend time indoors and if you're with someone that's asymptomatic - even if they're in your family - how would you know that they've got it? They won't get tested unless they have to for work - and why would they if they have nothing wrong with them?

There's loads of factors. Tons.

It's easy to blame the government, and largely there is a lot on them. But some of it is just down to this being a virus in the middle of winter. Some of it is people not listening. Some of it will be people being totally unaware that they've caught it while going to the shop, had no symptoms but passed it on to someone else in their household.

Just been told to self isolate. Annoying !

To be fair, was very easy to get a drive in test, booked one 5 miles away and have already been.

If you haven't already mate, you should get a text with your result by/in the morning. Was surprised at how quick I got mine back
