Seeing as the vast majority of Covid deaths are the elderly/poorly (the sort of people that will not be working or even have much reason to leave their homes)

How are the death numbers so high? Is this a massive second wave of deaths in care homes, or is it still the lag from Christmas hugging?

How else would vulnerable people be contracting it?

23% of all second wave deaths are in care homes. So, the government failed again to put that sector as priority and it's a catastrophe again. The delays on getting vaccines into care homes have been devastating, as have the continued neglect of care home workers who are off sick and have a massive reduction in pay if they test positive and stop working, so many dont.

That doesn't begin to encompass their folly. They needed (and were being told by their own scientists) to go for a lockdown at the end of autumn. They didn't, and the country accelerated into a winter crisis because of it...and that's why we see hospitals breaking with the pressure of it all.

It was a choice made to keep the economy open - just as it was back end of February and March last year - and it was tantamount to state murder.

I agree there.

But the Tier system has worked in certain areas and the November lockdown got the infection rates to a manageable level.

Placing London and the SE into Tier 2 completely undermined the system but nobody in Parliament or the London-based media called it out at the time.

In that time, a new strain seemingly spread in that area, which was probably down to the weather and more people being out ahead of Christmas.

Rates in my area - Tier 3 or lockdown in the last 3 months - have stayed relatively flat since the start of November.

Lag from Xmas, it's spreading in hospitals and, you know what, I think they don't actually have a clue how it randomly appears either.

Because people are still mixing indoors.

I guarantee a lot of people on here will know people who are still mixing socially.

Some of my missus mates, who are nurses and should know better are amongst the worst offenders.

Multiply this across the country.

I know quite a lot of nurses who don't follow the rules either. Don't mean to attack them as they've had a dreadful 12 months but if you're working in a hospital you should comply as much as possible.

For me working from home, if I catch it my partners at risk but thats about it. For nurses it could have devastating consequences.

I just used them as an example mate. I know quite a few others too and it seems to be predominantly women who are the main culprits - not having a go at women by the way.

...and putting Liverpool City Region into Tier 2 and the place became a basket case for infections.

The Tier system did not work. No serious health expert believes it has.

The severity of this second wave is down to Johnson and his government. Record deaths are down to him. They effectively turbo-charged a second wave by not locking down...and still we dont have an effective one.

They care about money not people. That's why we're here.

For balance I know of retired GP accountant church ministers types gave socially distancing and bubbles the Vs. My mother's neighbour had eleven round for Christmas from 5 households. My mum is the original curtain commandant, however, they were very open about after the event trying morally justify the very hard year only they had endured...

Terrible decision to even commence the 5 day Christmas, once that was put forward fair few people would have ignored the rowing back to one day, It's terribly difficult to pull back effectively once you say yes. Again this was another example of political ideology before science.

So it's knobheads and not the government's fault then?

What about the other 77%?

It’s a combination mate.

Myself won't accept the Government have been consistent in its messages. That's not even a partisan observation it's factual.
There will always be people who do whatever pleases them regardless. Hence why it's important when in charge you make sure your message is clear and concise every time. Because what happens on your watch will be your responsibility.

Also believe people think because have washed hands after a poo, social distance and wear a mask they are immune from infection, thats just measures to reduce transmission...
