Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

They`re running out of people and places to blame for the fact that it`s still rising unabated, so they`re looking to pin the blame elsewhere :

Pubs ( covid incubators ) - shut.
Restaurants ( muck sellers ) - shut.
Gyms - ( covid incubation factories for sted heads ) - shut.
Schools - ( junior covid incubation factories ) - shut.
Universities ( covid incubation warehouses ) - shut.
Beauty salons ( back, crack and sack parlours ) - shut.
Hair dressers / barbers ( have you been anywhere nice on your holidays - NO, I`m not allowed ) - shut.

You can`t blame them for being the spreaders anymore, as they`re all shut, so who`s next on the list of shame ?

The cyclist, the jogger, the lady, walking her dog in the park, with a cup of takeaway coffee ( that`s now classed as a picnic ), the family member who pops around to his elderly parents house with the shopping and has a cuppa, the family walking on a beach or mountain. along with other families.

It`s just madness.
Some of those alternative names will be in my head now forever

It shouldn’t matter this year then should it ?

Everyone who needs to be vaccinated, should be vaccinated
by the Summer, so there’ll be absolutely no need to keep the country in lockdown anymore.

There may well be some restrictions still in place, masks, social distancing etc, but the likes of the Covid incubators, muck sellers and back, crack and sack parlours should all be open for business.
Of course it matters. Why would you want a period where the population is only partially vaccinated and then open society/the economy up and maintain a level of infection going into autumn and struggling again to get people vaccinated (both those who never had the first couple of vaccination doses and those who have but will be waiting to be vaccinated again for next winter?).

When was it lost sight of that the old normal isn't returning any time soon? It seems to me that some people have forgotten that this is a pandemic and any attempt to go back to normal will be punished severely.

Well that's why you have a track, test and trace system in place.

Also, the people who won't have been vaccinated by the summer are the ones that will not die from this, or even likely to end up in hospital.

So the NHS won't be overwhelmed.

Also, while there's obviously a risk of spreading it, the vulnerable people have some form of protection, allowing their immune systems to do the rest.

Again, less strain on the NHS.

We know how to treat this thing and save lives, especially in the case of generally healthy people. Issue is capacity.

which we don’t (or at least don’t have one capable of doing what we need it to do)

I know, we had that convo last week.

Vaccine has to be the focus for now and then in the spring we have to get that system up and running.

Regardless, though, there's no justification for continued lockdowns. Lockdowns are there to ease the strain on the NHS. If the vulnerable groups (cats 1-6/7?) have some form of protection, then there's no need. The NHS should be more than capable of handling anybody going into hospital and more than capable of helping them.

Utter madness.

I tend to try and not get too involved with the Current Affairs forum, even though I enjoy reading other's posts. I'm not a die-hard Tory hater like many on here, but seriously, what an utter shambles this government is. Contradicting themselves left right and centre. We're being led by a bunch of absolute muppets.

If you test positive for covid when you die, you are counted in the statistics.

It's why they changed it to 'died with covid'

Isn’t it largely irrelevant though.

And the reason why people should focus on excess deaths (which are highly correlated to the rise in case numbers).

But it’s silly. People are thinking about it the wrong way. You don’t die of cancer. You die of complications due to cancer. To the nth degree you die because your heart stops and they can’t get it to beat again.

Ive not doubt that mistakes are made on death certs but I don’t think there is this big conspiracy to over state the numbers. If someone had covid and they die then it is a contributing factor and should be on the death certificate. If the complications due to covid are a factor (contracting pneumonia weeks later for instance) then it should be on the death cert.

You don’t generally have a single reason on the cert.

Oh yeah, they have to count it somehow. I'm not saying they did it to make it look worse. They have to establish it somehow and that's how they chose to do it.

I’ll play.

The sun is shining, it’s mid August, it’s the school holidays, everyone bar the under 40’s has been vaccinated.

Do you honestly think we’ll still be in lockdown, that pubs, hotels and restaurants etc will be shut, that holidaying isn’t allowed and we’ll still be living under the current restrictions ???

That's a hasty fix that isn't a fix.

Learn the lesson: the economy will have to wait. Get maximum vaccinations done then think about opening up the economy. All the rest is swivel eyed Tory BS that'll go on taking lives.

Do I honestly think that? No, of course not. This lot have shown that they dont give a flying one how many hundreds of thousands of lives are taken just as long as they and they're mates are making money. Bt there should be no going back to the free for all of last summer when the old normal was trying to be recaptured and those murderers in government were encouraging everyone to drop their guard. That world has gone. Utterly gone.

Any new rules, I shall simply not listen.

All I do atm is go to an office twice a week, on my own now. Rest of work is from home. Other than that, I go on walks, runs and the odd bike ride. See my mum and dad every few days as since 2/3 of my housemates are now wfh 5 days a week I can't get on the other computer so have to go and use theirs.

Same for me. I have to go to the office when called in. If I need to go to the shops a few times a week I will. Go out for a walk with the family every other day. It’s a crap life at the moment and can’t see how to restrict it further nor am I willing to.
