Tory incompetence writ large.

Christmas impact - 2 weeks after Xmas weekend now.
Hopefully
In 2 weeks' time, our numbers will start to dropWe're in the peak right now I guess, over the next week or so.

Staying at home is absolutely rubbish. In to my third shielding sting now. Did about 4 months the first time, a month the second and god knows how long this time. Barely seen anybody at all since March (wife and kids aside). Not sure how many more stints I can do at home tbh

According to some mate you might as well never leave the house until all 7 billion people on the planet - including those ones not born yet - have the jab.

Hopefully you'll get out in around 2027, but remember to wear a mask and make sure you have an app that tells you to stay at home if somebody in your county has a cold.

In all seriousness, that's crap, and feel for you. Are you managing to get out on a walk at least, even 20-30 mins a day?

Why is that it if anyone gets the virus, gets over it but dies within a month, even if it's of something totally different, they go on the stats as a covid death?

So you could have a mild dose of it, shake it off but then say get killed in a road accident a few weeks !ater, you will be you going the list of covid deaths just because you had a positive test in the previous 28 days. It's clear cynical manipulation of statistics for me.

Reading elsewhere on social media it seems plenty of families of deceased people have been annoyed at having covid put on death certificates of their loved ones when they've not even died from that.
So you are of the opinion that it is all exaggerated and a bit of an overstatement.
Hundreds of thousands of people are dead because they contracted the virus regardless of whether they also had cancer or diabetes. Very few got run over by that mythical bus.

Do I honestly think that? No, of course not. This lot have shown that they dont give a flying one how many hundreds of thousands of lives are taken just as long as they and they're mates are making money. Bt there should be no going back to the free for all of last summer when the old normal was trying to be recaptured and those murderers in government were encouraging everyone to drop their guard. That world has gone. Utterly gone.

There was no free for all in the Summer though was there or the numbers would’ve banged up, which they didn’t.

I travelled the length and breadth of the country in the Summer, Cornwall, Devon, the Lakes, Wales Yorkshire and all I saw was the rules being stuck to, even above and beyond that in some places - people being made to queue outside pubs and restaurants before going to a freshly sanitised table. Hotels and B&B’s using UV special UV lights to sanitise rooms.

There was no free for all in the Summer.

Yeah we get out for a walk each day which helps really. A lot of people don't seem to remember who is affected when telling people to 'just' stay home. Both my lads and my wife are stuck here too.

It will be over at some point and we will have to learn to live with it like we live with other things but the last 12 months have been pretty grim!

Yeah I definitely don't want to be in the camp that expects people to shield.

Happy for us to be in lockdown/restrictions for as long as it takes for those who are shielding - and those who care for people - to be vaccinated.

After that, they should be a thing of the past even with the vaccinations continuing. Have to take that first step at some point or there'll be no point in ever doing it.

The justification is to protect life. The vulnerable are still the vulnerable while the bulk of the popualtion are not immune. The vaccines are not 100%.
You risk losing more lives if you keep people locked down until everyone is vaccinated, not just from COVID either, especially if the rumours about ending support bubbles comes true. There’d be very little in the way of business and leisure for anyone to even come back to

On a personal level, I’m on level 4 of the waiting list due to my age and being asthmatic, It could be March/April at current rate before I even get my first shot, by which time I could be either back in work, still on furlough or had my job taken away by redundancy

Infection rates are likely continue to rise for another week or so, with hospitalisation lagging two weeks behind.

The worrying issue is that the projections suggest that unlike in April/May we won't see a quick drop in levels, but rather a plateau and slower decrease.

Hear this annoying crash example so much.

Lets flip it on its head, if you catch Covid and make a 'recovery' - then lets say you die 37 days after the positive test due to reasons that were caused by having it in the first place, you would then assume them people would not be counted. So its swings and roundabouts.

Excess deaths is the true barometer. Don't get caught up in the 'Could get hit by a bus' argument.

Yes, and the vaccines never will be 100%.
But this virus doesn't put the vast majority of people who get it in hospital. Nowhere close.
SO once those people are vaccinated, they have some form of protection. Their immune systems will do the rest - our bodies can deal with this. Even with mutations, there's no evidence the vaccine won't still give that base assurance of protection.
You keep rolling out the vaccines asap to every single person, but there should be some form of allowances and ease on restrictions or there might as well never be.
Ease on restrictions, yes. But that shouldn't involve going back to last summer's 'old normal' mistake. It was a catastrophic error and cant be repeated.

That's nonsense. Pubs were rammed and restaurants were cramming them in under the numbskull eat out to help out scheme. Shops were open and the insistence on social distancing wasn't there. Holidays: planes chocca with passengers making a mockery of social distancing in airport lounges.

If it wasn't a free for all and back to old normal, it wasn't far off it. And it was left that way until the tiered system came in - which was never enough to nudge behaviour the other way...that's why we face a catastrophe now.

Let's have this right: other societies have this under control. This country and countries like it dont because they are neo-liberal hell holes.

It’s bizarre isn’t it ?

Some people genuinely seem to enjoy living like this.

I really can’t get my head around it.
Think there's a lot to be learnt from this and some aspects of my life have genuinely improved. For example I don't mind working from home (but a day or two in the office a week would be the best scenario). I haven't even had a cold for a year now due to social distancing and mask wearing. I also think rampant consumerism should be curbed to help the environment. People out walking and cycling is also a good thing.

Obviously, I don't want to live in a never ending lockdown. I miss going to the football and having a pint etc etc but there's much to be learnt by all this. I hope it's all taken on board and society improves.

They are decisions made by the governemen of the day, not acts of nature.
