Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

While it is not 'just the flu' it does seem to have replaced the flu.

Found this official doc - it's the most recent doc I can find - go to page 20-24.

Where are the flu numbers? I don't see any green on those graphs. If someone can point in the right direction if I'm wrong.

Or is it just that people with flu are getting tested for covid 19?

It's took over the Flu.

Social distancing and masks have reduced the chances of getting flu while this Covid is more infectious and more deadly.

This was infecting people through the months of May and June unlike the Flu.

Okay... so the flu has just gone?

Just would have expected to see some green on those graphs...

Or can we draw the conclusion that we're having the covid cases/deaths instead of the flu deaths?

And how is that so? They're totally separate, so you'd expect to see the Influenza category still?

Flu hasn't gone, just that Covid is getting to its regular victims first.

Okay... That's fine, thought it'd be the case, and have said as much in this thread before Xmas and got shouted down by some.

Doesn't make it any better, like.

Between January and August 2020, there were 48,168 deaths due to Covid-19 compared to 13,600 from pneumonia. Only 394 were due to flu. Some people who died this year from Covid-19 may have died from flu in a normal year, thereby reducing the flu death figures.

Just the point I was going to make.

Are most of the world slowly getting back to normal, though?

This isn't defending the government, but nowhere in Europe is close to getting back to normal.

Brazil has been ravaged, not sure about elsewhere in South America.

Canada are under strict lockdown - or at least the major cities are.

The US... well, God knows.

China - I really don't think anybody should look to them. Nobody has a clue what they did and they've lied all along.

Thailand is back under lockdown after 2 new cases were reported last week.

I don't know about the other SE Asian countries but they're all employing quarantine and strict track and trace protocols.

Aus is kind of back to normality but they currently have an outbreak in NSW which is leading to restrictions.

NZ is the only place with any true normality and I'm pretty sure the only country you don't have to isolate from when landing there is Aus, though I could be wrong.

I don't think most of the world are slowly getting back to normal at all?

Yep, that was my point. It sounds blunt to say it though.

Rather, we seem to be going backwards.
