Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

For me, it seems obvious that a severe lockdown was needed the moment this new seemingly more transmissible variant was identified. The fact that this was not acted upon seems naive at best and akin to playing Russian Roulette. Let us hope that there is decisive action today or tomorrow at the latest that aires on the side of caution.

Most of the countries around china,. Like Thailand, Vietnam have controlled the virus very well in the main. Probably because they have recent experience of other viruses. One of the things that has to come out at the end of all this is we as a country need to have proper measures in place and spend money for the next virus. But we always seem to do everything on the cheap.
And they don't go around protesting about wearing masks and things like that.

Started off blaming gov. Came back to blaming the traveler.

Well they're both the issue aren't they?

The government should shut the borders, or have mandatory quarantine in place (how that's enforced is another issue).

However, just because the borders aren't shut, doesn't mean someone HAS to travel.

That's risking increasing the spread just like the government failing to close the borders is.

It's a bit of both. Why are people so willing to just shirk personal responsibility?

to test their eyesight?

Then turn around and get back on the plane love. Simple.

Absolutely hate the amount of dildos on Twitter swanning round the globe and then being all ‘well this isn’t very good at all.’ Stay where you are, stfu. We know it’s crap, thanks for the input.

You do get a lot of this on local news. I remember at the height of summer, one woman incredulously blaming every else for going to the beach, while she herself was at the beach. "What are they thinking" "how can they be so selfish" "there's no space here for anyone" with no sense of irony.

There is a bit of that for sure. But the wider question is, if we are meant to be taking back control of our borders, why isn't there a stricter regime.

At the start of the pandemic we had a pre booked trip to New York, while we were over there it really "kicked off" with the numbers. I was astonished there was nothing on the way back. I mean there was the defence that when we booked, and even when we departed it was not a big story, it was still a handful of cases isolating in the wirral territory.

I arrived back the day Madrid played Liverpool. Saw a load of Madrid fans at Liverpool Victoria station and made sure and made sure I went and wished every one of them good luck. I even gave my Everton scarf to one! So in fairness I'm probably as big a hypocrite as anyone, but it did feel a sacrifice worth making at the time!

That last line is really what has upset me the most in all of this sorry affair.

Yes the government are an absolute disgrace but ffs take matters into your own hands and show some personal responsibility.

The amount of times I've heard "well I wouldn't have done it if the government had locked it down in the first place"

Show some common sense, show some restraint, show respect for your fellow people both young and old.

This isn't a free for all to see who can be the biggest knobhead, every action that we do can have severe consequences for others.

Yep I've seen loads of people really dig in, dig deep and been brilliant over the last few months yet for every 100 people who are like that, it only takes 1 tit who shirks their responsibility to screw it up for others.

The land of the knobhead. I think that will be maccavennies debut novel.

Can you imagine if these people had to live during The Blitz for example?

"I'm going to leave my lights on thank you very much! I don't care if the Luftwaffe bombs my house, I'm not living in fear"

Ignoring of course that they will also be making a nice target of the houses of everyone else on their street

We'd have been bombed into oblivion in about 15 minutes

Absolute joke that because the government are so indecisive and incompetent, the unions and local authorities are having to take control of the school situation. It's quite an extraordinary coup against the government really. Schools were already understaffed as it was and with some teachers self-isolating and others shielding many schools will be dangerously understaffed and probably shouldn't open anyway. 10 years of Tory cuts to education and teacher training coming home to roost. Yet again.

Issue B doesn't exist if Issue A does what it's supposed to. And if Gov absolutely have to continue with travel, to not have the most basic of checks in place is reckless negligence.

It's a bit of both in the sense that it's a huge chunk of one, a wee bit of the other.
