We know the az vaccine is 70% effective for 12 weeks.

We also know Pfizer one is 90% for 21 days. Now surely to god we can assume its not going to lose all its immunity within 12 weeks?

The British medical board have far more data than the public and have decided thats what we should do.

Good enough for me

Indeed, but key word is "if". Right now, there's no evidence at all for it - indeed there's more evidence that kids get hit harder by the flu than COVID.

So right now an emotional radio call in can be disregarded given there's no actual evidence to back up her claims. It might feel hard for her personally but she's basically in a war zone situation right now, so exhaustion, panic and fear can alter her rationale.

As it stands, the situation with kids is simply about being super spreaders. To quote a completely random tweet that just happens to nail it...

It really is this. There's an element of child protection in regards to education being important, but another month or two isn't going to be the end of the world for them. But the reality is the economic hit is the reason schools aren't closing nationally.

Absolutely this, it's just funny to watch politicians who've shown very little regard for education or children over the last 10 years fall over themselves to stress the importance of schools. The problem is, I think it's clear the NHS is hitting breaking point very soon and if they don't slam the breaks on across all of society (including schools) we could soon have patients dying in corridors, which is never a good look for any government.

On a side note, it's amazing when you scroll through Twitter to see so many people repeat the line schools are safe for children. Quite a lot really missing the boat on the fact it's the kids' role in spreading that's the issue and not their health.

With regards to the vaccination programme, you can only hope a war like effort is going on to get this to as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time. It should dominate cabinet meetings for the next weeks and months but there's still that sinking feeling they're going to mess it up.

I predict Johnson will 'personally take control' of the situation around March after we've wasted another few months fannying round.

Does anyone know if you can get the vaccine if you have an auto-immune disease and take drugs like methotrexate which lowers the immune system?

You can take it but it will lower the effectiveness of the vaccine.

My sister is a GP and is on similar medication for rheumatoid arthritis. She said she could have stopped her arthritis medication temporarily but chose to have the vaccine whilst taking her regular medication.

Thanks. It's for my sister who has mixed connective tissue disease. She saw the stuff about allergies but has not seen anything about auto immune. I'll let her know what you said

Exact same as my mother in- law.

She’s had zero side effects from the vaccine too ( so far )

I haven't read any sources for this but knowing my sister she'll have definitely found out everything possible before making her decision ha.

If your sis has any specific questions message me and I'll ask my sister for her.

You have faith in Boris? Genuine question!

We're hoping her consultant will be in touch soon.. she was in touch in March when lockdown started but I'm sure she will have been so busy dealing with this epidemic. Thanks for the advice and help

No worries mate. Yeah same with pretty much all regular consultant reviews at the mo but hopefully she'll at least get a telephone review soon anyway.

Nightmare situation this.

2m doses a week from mid jan promised from astra zeneca.

That should break the back of it

Can only pray for it but my head tells me that won't be happening. Vial supply is crippling, and we're ran by morons with a, let's be frank, inept NHS management we're relying on for logistics.

I'd be astonished if they got anywhere close to that anytime before mid February, probably closer to early March.
