Were we told that?

Genuine question. I don't remember been told that we'd have millions a month vaccinated by January 1st?

In May 30 Million doses were to be available by September (2020)

Then in November it became 10 million by the end of the year.

Apparently we have loads of it, just not in vials ready to be injected.

I’m suggesting this Government is more interested in headlines than competent delivery of vaccine programme to suppress this pandemic.

My grandparents will have both been vaccinated in the next couple of weeks. I was thinking that I still wouldn't really want to see them in person but they are probably as safe as they ever could be now?

I keep repeating this but Asia followed the SARS model (from experience), Europe and the west followed the Flu model.

Aus and NZ followed SARS, but their contact tracing isn't as ultra strict as it is in Japan, SK etc - they have climate and population density (or lack of) on their side.

Not saying you're wrong, but just worth pointing out imo.
The UK has roughly twice as many deaths from Covid19 as the whole of south east Asia + China + the Korean Peninsula + Japan combined - TWICE AS MANY...a country of less than 67 million people has almost 80,000 deaths compared with less than 40,000 amongst over 2 billion people on the other side of the world.

This place is a basket case. The poster boy of how not to handle a pandemic. Johnnson and his fellow gangsters should be dragged out of Downing Street and face trial for mass murder.

Fair enough. Like I said, the UK and Europe decided to follow the Flu epidemic model. It hasn't worked. There's a variety of factors for that.

I mean we've just started the vaccine roll out fully though haven't we?

Let's just see how it goes. I don't disagree with you but we're the first country to have started the roll out so hopefully we can just up the pace and keep it going. Can't roll them out until they're approved and the oxford one only was three days ago.

If you're not going to go and see them after they get fully vaccinated from this then you might as well never see them again? What would you be risking?

Not having a go, but this is what this has done to people - ingrained a fear. While it's right to be cautious, if they're both vaccinated, then they are at absolutely no risk if you go to see them - or no more risk than they were of catching anything else before the pandemic, if you get me.

Whilst parts of this are true it’s still against the rules to meet others outside household/bubble indoors and now more than ever we should be asking people to follow the rules a little while longer.

I would have thought that the best way forward would be to wait until A/ the current wave of infections abate and flatten out and are suppressed, and B/ more of the population as a whole has had the vaccine.

You'd probably be looking toward an Easter meet up as a safe way of approaching your grandparents.

Just my opinion.

How does other people having the vaccine make it safer though? It doesn't really make an impact. I suppose if I was vaccinated as well that might add a bit more safety?

This whole pandemic is going to make seeing older family members very worrying in future years for a lot of people.

Mentally I would be extremely apprehensive to be in the same room as an 80+ year old.

See them outside, that`s what I do with mine.

I know it`s freezing at the mo, but wait until it warms up a bit ?
