So our reporting system is in meltdown. There arw approx 9000 positive cases over the past 3 or 4 days that have not been officially recorded.

We're basically still doing paperwork (and i mean actually paperwork on paper because we haven't put in place a proper IT system still).

The max cases the IT system can report is about 2000 a day so we're reporting about 1700 cases a day when its likely 3 times that now.

Thats if you can get a test of course as GP's are having to request 10 times the number of tests they were at the beginning of December. Confirmed close contacts of a positive test are now not being tested.

Positivity rates for tests are between 20 and 30 percent. Our hospitals are close to capacity now and to confound that the number of infections in a hospital setting is outstripping admissions.

In the past 2 days 4 of my family and potentially 4 or 5 of mrs Dublinbluenose's family have tested positive.

Happy new year.

There is a right to protest however this should be disregarded to protect public health and to save lives.

These people are social terrorists and I would hit them with water cannons, rubber bullets and put them in a containment camp for the rest of the pandemic.
what do they protest like? the lockdown? why would you act in a way which would extend the very lockdown you don't like, because of possible rising cases? ideological opponents of the measures are the worst. no intellectuality whatsoever.

Is Ireland in complete lockdown now it are you doing the tier stuff.
Take care of yourself and your family buddy. Happy new year

How does other people having the vaccine make it safer though? It doesn't really make an impact. I suppose if I was vaccinated as well that might add a bit more safety?

This whole pandemic is going to make seeing older family members very worrying in future years for a lot of people.

Mentally I would be extremely apprehensive to be in the same room as an 80+ year old.
If more people have the vaccine then it stands to reason the virus has less impact amongst the general population - 60% to 70% vaccination can reach near herd immunity.

They're protesting the lockdown and saying Covid doesn't exist outside the hospital where people are dying and their families have to listen to them.

This pandemic has made me realise that I actually despise large portions of the population. I'd actually be happier if people like that were dead. I'd munch popcorn watching police brutality on them with a smile.

I thought the pandemic would bring people together in some way but I think it's just exposed the amount of human garbage there is in society.

Speaking of the police, are they actually arresting these scum ? If not why not. Thought misinformation was against the law, there must be some law in place that stops idiots, chanting lies against hospital workers who are trying to do their jobs under almost impossible odds.
No doubt human rights will be brought up, but how about human rights for Doctors, Nurses and front line Hospital staff and for the thousands of patients that are sick and dying. Hate these people with a passion.

So my pregnant sister has tested positive, she started developing symptoms on Thursday and now has to isolate along with her husband and my niece for 10 days, she had been due to go in for an inset day at the school she works at and my niece attends on Tuesday

As we had seen her on Monday, cos my niece had stayed over the night before, my mum had me take a nasal test that she takes twice a week in the hospital she works at which thankfully has come back negative

Problem with the police is the lack of them. They pretty much don't enforce any of the gathering rules unless its raves of 100s of people as they don't have the staff. People should use their common sense and stop behaving like children.

Were in the highest level so hopefully it halts its progress but not hopeful for the next few weeks.

They want to open schools on Monday week, we've already taken the decision not to send our girls back on that date.

Big pressure on the UK Govt to keep schools shut for 2 weeks, at least. At this juncture, it makes perfect sense to me.

Can't make out if its true was the government considering giving you the first vaccine and then the second vaccine you receive would be any of the 2 vaccines available. Basically possibly mixing them, really not sure about that one if true.

Did see someone on the TV say they will not mix the Pfizer and AZ vaccine
