"Ready" isn't perhaps the right word. It might be ready to do "something", but it's not based on comprehensive research. It's being rushed out the door, and it just feels to me like having all the hallmarks of a political decision.

In my view, if this was purely a scientific call, they'd have pulled it and undergone more trials before releasing it to the public. Instead, they're doing more trials but releasing it to the public before knowing those results - which is irresponsible.

This is going to be a very tough sell now to many members of the public, and as I say I think it's happened because of Tory incompetence and desperation.

It doesn’t help selling it when people are telling others not to take it, or saying it’s not “ready” with no evidence, based on nothing more than feelings influenced by distrust of the Government.

I see a number of people in here with a seemingly rudimentary understanding of the science making pretty dangerous declarations about something which could save hundreds of thousands of lives.

I would give my right arm to have him get a vaccine that was "only" 62% efficient. Its not a competition its peoples life's at risk take whatever you can get an be thankful for it ffs.

Noting the institutions involved in AstraZeneca and Oxford, I doubt they would be releasing this without truly believing that it is safe and effective, regardless of the politicians.

A 62% effective vaccine is good enough to give community protection though, at least against what’s going around now.

Which is what the UK and the world needs right now.

Get things stabilised, hospital admissions under control, stop the vulnerable dying, open society back up again and " fine tune " the rest once this is achieved.

The people turning their nose up at the Oxford vaccine will be in the same queue with their arms out, just like the rest of us when it comes down to it.

i think people are missing the key point. Not 1 person not a single one who had the first dose needed hospital treatment even if they caught the virus.

This is the only thing that really matters.

2m doses a WEEK is possible with this vaccine, the Pfizer vaccine is roughly 120,000. Saving lives is the key.

It’s got a very similar efficacy to a dose of the flu vaccine, yet no one’s moaning about that.

If it stops hospitals filling up, people dying and some return to normality that’ll do for me.

Not sure flu vaccine comparisons will bare any weight in debate considering it's been heresy to compare COVID to Flu leading up to this point in the pandemic response.
