Maybe I’m a bit dim but surely since this is a global crisis if there is a better vaccine out there why isn’t the “recipe” shared with all pharm companies to make it? I’m guessing profit is involved.
They have different ways of creating protection for the body: Oxford and Sputnik use the more traditional (proven) method of adapting a virus shell - viral vector.

These vaccines are cheaper and easier to store, but their effectiveness is still up for analysis. Pfizer and Moderna use a newer and less tested RNA approach.

With this, there are issues with storage limitations (-20C to -70C for example) and the additional cost of each. It's more of a broad approach to try a spectrum,

I guess the great unknown is how long they last.

It'll offer some immunity, but not as much as north Americans or people in the EU will get - they will be safer taking their Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

It'll be interesting to see how many advanced nations take up the Oxford vaccine. I think that it's roll out will be largely confined to the developing world and the UK...which says it all really.
And Australia, (save yourself the bother, heard it before) we've got deals to take both...in 3 months.
tbh, I dont mind which one I get as long as I get one.
I'll let you know which one when I get it.
I'd say the Oxford, as doctors and chemist can keep it in their fridge, makes for easier distribution, especially out in the sticks

It’s a difficult one because we should really be pushing for better than a 62% effective vaccine.

The UK has bought 40 million units of the Pfizer vaccine but I’m not sure when we’d receive that figure.

Why don’t we keep pressing on to get a better vaccine made here, and roll that out once it’s ready?

I'm no expert but I took from that briefing and the BBC correspondent confirmed. 1st dosage is 70% efficacy. 2nd dosage within 4 to 12 weeks gives 80%efficacy
