The covid denier lunatics value money
The lets shut everything down lunatics value life

I know which group I'm happy to be in.

There's also a middle group who understand the severity and suffering the disease has caused but are also terrified of a future of poverty, no jobs, no entertainment venues, no restaurants / pubs and depression.

It's easy to say people who are worried about the economy don't care about life though.

I think if most of the people who are all out 'lockdown' whatever the cost were about to lose their businesses, jobs or homes then they'd have a different perspective.

It's easy to preach being selfless when you're not going to lose anything of great consequence.

There needs to be a balance between peoples health and protecting the economy.

Not easy to find that balance though.

Hospital figures - 418 deaths were announced today, up 85 on yesterday and down 18 on last Tuesday. 365 deaths were in English hospitals, up 47 on yesterday and down 40 on last week. The 7 day rolling average falls to an even 390

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 414 deaths were announced today, up 57 on yesterday and down 277 on last Tuesday. The 7 day rolling average falls to 465.71

For the 60 day cut off, 488 deaths were announced today, up 111 on yesterday and down 297 on last Tuesday. The 7 day rolling average falls to an even 519

Yeh I get the reasons for going private but my worry is they'll start saying go private if you can to reduce the burden on the NHS and then as more people transition over the messaging will change. It would take years for that approach to work though.

Australia uses a dual system, widespread private health, but also a government funded option, TBH it works quite well

Exactly.

Oh no, I might lose a material possession that I can replace.

I would give everything I own to protect my mother, I would give everything I own to protect your mother also.

It’s Christmas so we can all go out and not care, that virus stuff can wait till we’ve celebrated.

not surprised it’s surging

It's also the middle of winter. You know, when it's easier for viruses to spread and people's immune systems are generally weaker...

If you're in a Tier 3/4 area, you can't 'go out' anyway. You can go on walks, to the supermarkets/shops and to the gym (and with how strict they are on rules there's no evidence that they're hotspots for it), that's about it.

It was always going to get worse at this time of year.

Also, it looks like it's mainly London and the south east where the hospitals are filling up - the ICU ward at Sheffield Northern isn't full, and neither is Leeds (as of yesterday, they had 12 covid patients).

Hopefully it stays that way, but the risk of all of this would have been minimised/lowered had London and the SE been placed into stricter lockdown at the start of this month.

My post wasn't aimed at anyone specifically. I'm more concerned about the wellbeing of people than the economy itself but I know that everyone is in a different position with regards to how lockdowns will affect their circumstances.

People's individual situation will affect their views on how they feel the government should be dealing with the pandemic. I consider myself a caring person. I want them to lockdown until the vulnerable have all been vacinated but at the same time I can understand if someone was about to lose everything they'd ever worked for, they might not feel the same way.
