Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

We don't but its not as big a concern due to the method of focusing on the "shape" of the virus rather than what's inside it.

The common cold, for example, is much harder to innoculate against because of the variants of rhinoviruses on top of coronavirus. You'd have to give 100 vaccines or whatever to cover all bases.

COVID19 doesn't work that way - if it changes its delivery mechanism, it'll likely be much less dangerous as a result. That's why the people behind the Pfizer vaccine are so confident it'll still work, as it'd take something truly insane for it not to.
May I ask what your area of academic study is?

I obviously have far too much faith in the ability of folk to not be stupid.

In my little world, I have just kept Nikki safe. My elderly parents have reasonably cheerfully accepted the varied rules and that, and discovered zoom with their mates.

Mt eldest wont go into a busy shopping centre, and my younger autistic lad has long accepted that Christmas will be different, he wont sing in his Panto, nor be able to go to work one day a week at a city farm.

I struggle to get why so many dont seem to get it. (sic). And I aint nothing special, you have met me ffs.

We have around seventy million people in this country, why do you find it so hard to believe that a sizeable proportion of those people will be careless?

The vast majority of people have been sensible, but there will always be a good amount of people who aren’t. Will be like that in every country.

That’s where the government comes in. Take away the avoidance of doubt and the ability to be reckless.

More than ever we need strong and clear leadership and we’ve been lacking that from day one. Yes, people have an individual responsibility, but the role of government isn’t being implemented here even at a basic level.

Disappoints me how quick people have been to turn on the public and point the finger at them at every opportunity. It all leads back to the government and the decisions they have made since thelearned of the virus.

You can’t sit there and say “well I’ve been sensible, why hasn’t everyone else?”. That’s naive.

5 of my projects to date have been working closely with measures to tackle the virus. 3 are fraudulent (such as the owners of these business being Tory donors/close friend of a minor Royal). Two of them are honest an open, I’ve sat in meetings where it’s been clear as day someone who may or may not be connected with HMG was expecting a backhand. It shocked me back in April hearing “obviously you’ve not been greasing the right palms” pop up during a conference call.

Anyway, the truth of this virus is it must be a controlled halt to the virus. It cannot be stopped by the vaccine within a year as it mutates and will still circulate at a low level. The hope is the vaccinate the majority of this country, reduce the total deaths and hospitalisations of COVID patients which will happen with the Vaccination. HMG’s timescale for this halt is 3 years, normality will be almost there by Q3 2021 pending nonviolent mutations of this virus. In 3 years it is hoped our natural immunity alongside vaccinated immunity worldwide will be enough to control this virus down to a no-threat stage, to the UK this would mean no different to seasonal flu. The virus will always be around in a new form. So normality will soon resume in 2021, but the fear of the virus to some will last until 2024 at the earliest.

They didnt disappear, they just became private.

I wonder which Tory owns the company.
Other half had one a few months back, Ipsos Mori survey.

Personally I think they shelved it because "Immunity Passports" would have been impossible to enforce and everyone would walk around 'willy nilly' if they knew they were immune.
They only pick up Anti-bodies for 4-6 months post infection, theoretically speaking they’re only decent to use in the summer months when the Virus levels at their lowest point. No point in using them whilst the virus is rampant, we need the Anti-Gen tests at the moment not the Anti-body.

Still, you can get down the gym, get a place in a restaurant and shop till you drop in Liverpool City Region, so who cares?
You appear to be someone who would view being sentenced to 20 years hard labour in a Siberian gulag as a relaxing break and pack your speedoes accordingly.

I dont understand your relentless push to have every single joy in life removed from the population. To drag ourselves through the drab, gray landscape that you cheerleader for, would and is leaving millons of people in despair, depression and destitution. Your hardline political opinions offer nobody any hope.

The problems at hand, be they viral, health, social or economic need tackling head on, they wont disappear through sending the world into a bizarre eternal hibernation. Unfortunately our leaders lack the courage to take the necessary action due to the fact that they wish to constantly play footsie with popularity. After almost a year we are back at square one - the restrictions imposed have clearly not worked. Time for decisive action that keeps everyone, not just the masochistic, happy. This means the opening up of the economy and support and vaccination those who wish for it. The sane and reasonable man will agree that there is no other way out of this.

Law. Not claiming to be an epidemiologist, but I'm trained in being able to effectively research case law etc. so there's crossover "help" from that area of study when interested in others.

For example, in regards to COVID, the fact it was a coronavirus and we don't have a vaccine for the existing common cold, an illness from the same body of viruses, led me to research if a vaccine was feasible many months ago.

But like everything on the internet, take what I say with a pinch of salt, I'm not necessarily right. My writing style is just very definitive; it's a weakness.

A different point entirely I know, but the reason we do not have a working vaccine for the common cold is because quite simply it wouldn't be financially viable.

My friend who works for the LSTM talked about it at the start of the pandemic and said while there were difficulties they do believe they could achieve one.

But what's the point: it would cost lots and who would pay to take it in suitable numbers?

swimming baths too; the last data I remember seeing said there'd been around a hundred cases identified out of about a million at that point where the disease might have been transmitted at a baths
i go swimming every tues & thurs. The closest i come to anybody is bout 5 metres

Was going to post in “Minor things that make you fume” but although I’m fuming I’m also sad and to me it’s not a minor thing and it is related to coronavirus so here goes... We’re in tier 4 so Christmas with daughter and grandkids and my brother has been cancelled. Have had to parcel up all the extra food and share it out and we’ll all be sitting down to Christmas dinner and tea over FaceTime. Had just about come to terms with the disappointment when my neighbours’ father turned up to stay over the holiday. Told myself “Oh well he’s on his own and probably lonely and ultimately wasn’t going to affect me really. However last night two more have turned up and have been staying overnight. They are really nice people and I don’t want to fall out with them, it’s just so frustrating. Thanks for listening.

lol Understood mate. One of my best friends is a judge and I have witnessed his increasing obsession with all things epidemiology during this year. That said, the subject seems to be as contagious as the actual virus!

With regards to the virus, it has mutated over 4000 times since its discovery and although there are no data to suggest an issue or not with the vaccine in relation to VUI-202012/01 it may be the case, if not now that at some point the vaccine will need genetic sequencing. We are fortunate that the COG UK team is so capable!

You may take from the above the I have a mild dose of epidemiology, too!

Short answer for you: 744 people died in this country yesterday due to covid19.

Dont try and finesse an economic argument into that scenario.
