same here (except its Tuesday and Friday) - the baths have done an awful lot of work to make it safe as well, and it improved my mood considerably just going again
We were taking our children every Saturday or Sunday and it was run fantastically: small numbers in the complex; constant cleaning; social distancing.

As a family, we had half the 25m pool to ourselves, so we did not come in close contact with any other members of the public during our stay.

Also, my rudimental knowledge of viruses would suggest that COVID-19 may not like chlorine. The gym may be different, but swimming is safe.

Short answer for you: 744 people died in this country yesterday due to covid19.

Dont try and finesse an economic argument into that scenario.
Your 19th century dogma is Im afraid long since condemned to the museums and reference libraries of europe.

You seem like a strongman of the restrictions yet hater of the tory Government. Strange then that your passion to have everyone locked up in misery shows you in reality to be approving of a right wing authoritarianism that even Thatcher would have been on the streets rioting against.

I view your politics as something from a land that time forgot, which is exactly the geography that you would selfishly have our young people dwelling in for years to come with endless lockdowns and economic suicide.

Dont talk to me about misery when between 500 and 700 people have perished this week every day.

Just read back to yourself the utter tripe you've been spouting in this thread and reflect on it.

So offer a realistic solution.

What would Marx advise in this situation? Have the starving proles locked up in their hovels for years on end?

Haphazardly flinging around random rounded up figures of death tallies is not only a poor basis of justification for further suffering but it also disrespects those who have died.

So, do you have a realistic solution that aids the majority and not just the Jurassic park inhabiting retired regulars of the local labour club?

There is a realistic solution to this that would have prevented national lockdowns, caused far less economic damage and absolutely would have resulted in far fewer deaths; however for whatever reason the Government did not want to do it - a very large national test, track and trace scheme together with comprehensive support for the people required to isolate.

It would have required 80000-100000 people, more than a few billions to set up and run and an awful lot of effort - but it would have worked; we've seen it work in other countries.

Are you able to get down the gym and relieve some stress mate?

Lockdown early. Lockdown fully. Keep essential workers working. Remote learning for those in education. Protect our most vulnerable. Release from that only when the virus is under control. Then press down hard again when it BEGINS to rise.

Any civilised society does that.

There's a reason the Uk is the Plague Island with the worst record in Europe on Covid19: the Tories who run the government here dont give a shin y one aboit people, they just want to narrow the economic losses...and they cant even achieve that.

If only it was just an economic argument.
What am I missing that would necessitate we keep to a tiered system that's handed us hundreds upon hundreds of deaths per day? Mental well-being? That's always an issue. It wont be sorted by leaving the door open of a gym.

But as we know, it always begins to rise after lockdown.

Going in and out of lockdown is futile and costly.

There needs to be a definite exit strategy.

Have you seen the impact lockdown has had on somebodies mental health?

I have, it’s not good to see a person go through that.

Dont just dismiss it like you do.

TBF I doubt that is a legitimate aim - there is no exit strategy, not from this virus (which is going to come back in waves), or from future viruses (which will be along every decade or so), or most importantly from the weaponization of these things (which absolutely is going to be in the minds of every hostile state or terrorist group capable of doing it, given the damage this has caused to the West in particular).

We are going to have to accept the cost of and importance of a proper defensive system against pandemics / public health issues now, for all of our lifetimes and (hopefully) much longer than that. I just hope this dawns on the government soon - it should have dawned on them around February this year.
