They're (and I mean the authorities globally) are never going to let this end now, I'm convinced. Okay, 'never' is strong, but it'll be way longer than there's any justification for.

There'll always be 'something'. Always some 'fear' or new strain or whatever. Some change that will just mean that until every single person is vaccinated then there's got to be lockdowns. Got to be some sort of control (this is for lack of a better word btw).

The UK government cocked up by allowing London and the south east to be in Tier 2 at the start of the months. That's all this is. Throw in a new strain/mutation, people travelling for work and back home for Xmas = full lockdown again in the first week of Jan.

This is my worry. Even when people are vaccinated if a new variant shows up will we have to isolate until they know its covered by the vaccine?

The south africa variant scaremongering is a disgrace.

We don't but its not as big a concern due to the method of focusing on the "shape" of the virus rather than what's inside it.

The common cold, for example, is much harder to innoculate against because of the variants of rhinoviruses on top of coronavirus. You'd have to give 100 vaccines or whatever to cover all bases.

COVID19 doesn't work that way - if it changes its delivery mechanism, it'll likely be much less dangerous as a result. That's why the people behind the Pfizer vaccine are so confident it'll still work, as it'd take something truly insane for it not to.
