Thats pretty much what he said. But it was couched within the fact the Bio folk had worked out why.

Like you said earlier, it could have been down to folk being daft, (is a factor, deffo), but not until Friday could he know the added risk; ergo, the increased transmission rate.

Sorry but I don't agree with that at all - it requires him to have not known at all about it (the increased transmission of the new form), and only finding out when he was presented with exact answers on Friday by the scientists.

Hancock's statement alone disproves that (unless they are saying Hancock didn't tell him and he didnt read the papers, watch the news or look at Hansard).

Theres also the point that nervtag only had moderate confidence in its statement that the new form was 70% more contagious, so it wasn't 100% certain anyway. If he'd had said he was waiting for them to give an assessment then perhaps that would be more accurate - though even then you'd have to wonder what they did in order to prepare the country, transport links, police, NHS etc for it given it was a possibility of happening.

Personally, I think he's said it because its the only theory that explains what they did last week that doesnt result in extreme criticism of them. If they knew or had good reason to suspect London had a new form of COVID spiking and ordered kids to go back to school anyway then that is a disgrace. If they knew or had good reason to suspect there was a new form of COVID spiking and werent going to stop people spreading it around the country then that is an even worse disgrace.

also @roydo, if you need any more evidence showing you how Johnson knew and lied in the press conference then pete picking the cudgel up on his behalf should be all the evidence you need
