Now London and the South - East are in tier 4 mate Johnson will want to level the playing field even if infection rates aren't anywhere near as high in other parts of the country.

My missus had her mate who lives around London whinging the other day on the phone about having to go into tier 4, the missus was speaking to her again yesterday and she's now whinging that because they have had to go into tier 4 then the whole country should go into tier 4, it's the Southern mentality.
Do you know what the difference is between tier 3 and tier 4 cos up until last week I thought thre were only 3 tiers

I'll bet its a tiny number of people; after all there is a huge personal incentive to get it.

However if what @NilSatisOptimum says is true then expect a whole load of articles from the usual hacks on the usual papers saying people aren't taking it up so hundreds of thousands of first doses were wasted.

The initial takeup of the vaccine won't be the problem - it'll be complacency around 12 months after it that will.

Also, on a side note, the evidence of this increased transmissability seems to be based on Tier 3 not working as well as hoped... have they considered that's because absolutely everyone ignored the tier rules?

It really does seem to me they jumped straight to "70% more transmissable" rather than coming outside their little thoughtbubble and considering that perhaps everyone isn't listening to what they say.

Cos unless I misheard him earlier, he was on about the fact they had been told why and how its changed on Friday.

Ill try and find the clip, but I thought he said that he wasn't told until Friday of the increased transmission risk and took decisive action the next day.

If that is what he said, then that is not true - Hancock said that there was an increased risk of transmission and the government didn't take decisive action (indeed it threatened legal action against Greenwich Council for closing its schools the day after).

This was the essence of Pippa Crerar's question (and the follow up) that he tried to pretend was her calling for schools to be closed for a year.

Its also something he can't answer properly either, given that the reason noone believes what they say is because they lie as a reflex.

NERVTAG "confirmed" it on Friday. It was however known about and heavily suspected in regard to increased transmission before then.

Thats pretty much what he said. But it was couched within the fact the Bio folk had worked out why.

Like you said earlier, it could have been down to folk being daft, (is a factor, deffo), but not until Friday could he know the added risk; ergo, the increased transmission rate.

Putting aside her looks Emilia Skirmuntt on sky news now, the evolutionary virologist from Oxford University, is blowing away the mathematical variant theory, it's down too people compliance and lack of it.

It is exactly that - the tiers haven't worked. But they've had to have a new excuse for precious London.

See the latest? The virus now miraculously spreads in schools due to the mutation! Wow! How very convenient!

Total, unmitigated BS, the lot of it. This is the same virus, mutating in the same thousands of ways it has from the start, with the sole difference being public compliance has nosedived, particularly after Cummings and his adventure in Barnard Castle.

The virus didn't get "under control" in Merseyside because of tier rules; it just naturally ebbed and flowed in a wave. It'll do the same in the south east and they'll laud "tier 4 success", but it's a nonsense. A complete, total nonsense.
