Taiwan is one of the most overpopulated places on earth so not a great example mate!

Still the UK population is about 40 odd million higher than Taiwan albeit less densely populated.
I think his point was that population density shouldn't stop a place tackling Covid effectively. The Dutch have roughly double the population density of here, for instance.

More to the point the UK as an island is way too populated. You look at other islands and the virus doesnt have the opportunity to spread much whereas we are packed in like sardines.
Besides which, after January 1st when there's no one to sell all the bloody fish to, the sardine population will easily outnumber that of the human population. I'm predicting a War of the Newts style takeover.

wait - is this some 4d chess move debate tactics which will end up with them proving they are correct about population density by being observably the densest people in the population?

Haha well its a combination of having loved cooking since I was a child and being poor and having to make the most of ingredients and getting every possible bit of taste out of them.

It's one of the only good things I can think about not having any money. If I'd had luxury stuff and an endless store cupboard I would have got lazy and wouldn't have thought about what I was doing as much I suppose.
Human beings are the most creative when put under pressure. It seems your creativity has flourished out of need and you have managed to make the most of it with your cooking skills, I wish I was only as creative. I consider myself a good cook and baker but I'm very recipe driven.

I have to be frank that as much as I enjoy cooking if I ever had the money to have someone else bringing such creativity to my kitchen I wouldn't mind a bit lol

The problem is the human population is becoming unsustainable worldwide. The reason Asia produces all these respiratory viruses like SARS, Covid etc is because the more densely populated you are the more you inevitably encroach on the natural habitats and viruses will transmit from animals to humans.

Unless the world together starts to address it then COVID will be one in a long line of viruses that nature will send to do the culling for us.

Taiwan and South Korea are (IIRC) much more densely populated than we are. HK absolutely is. All of them have done far better than we have.
Yes.

And despite a population density more than twice as high as Britain's, Taiwan has had 7 coronavirus deaths while we have had 67,000.
Its a combination of good govt. policies and a receptive population who take these policies in board.
UK & USA have had many poor policies...I mean look at the 2 leaders... only few of these policies have been spot on and only a portion of the population have taken any notice either way

Do you know what mechanism is the UK's government planning to implement to verify that people have been vaccinated? Specially since about 75% of people would have to be vaccinated for a country to reach herd immunity.

At the moment here in the US the government hasn't come up with anything creative. The FDA is supposed to be issuing cards to be stamped or something like that but in the age of technology there is not a system in place to issue some sort of confirmation of people's inoculation. Hopefully once Biden comes to office his government would come up with something more efficient.

But the scientists haven't signed off anything though, they just advise.

And, that advise has been taken at the death weeks later when it should have been.

@tsubaki you have a valid point about the media and how they have tried to demonise the likes of Vallance for trying to save lifes.

Its worked in this case.
Its like they are totally ignored now til its too late.
But tbf some of the "science" didnt cover themselves in glory from the start of this with their herd immunity idiology.
Even advising not to wear a mask when the rest of the world where wearing them , but if course they changed tack far too late on this.

I thought parliament have to vote it through? Are they allowed to add new rules under the covid legislation already approved or something?
I thought they passed something about emergency procedures earlier this year , I remember thinking that cant be right it would just give Boris and his cronies carte blanche to do what they want.
Could be wrong like , but seem to remember they passed something.
