You’ve just posted something which shows in the previous five years it declined for two years in a row before increasing. I’m not sure what your point is as you seem to be arguing against your own statement that it has been rising every year for half a decade. It has not, regardless of whether you extrapolate the data or not.

Extrapolated data from surveys is by nature more prone to inaccuracy, the factual observed data shows a decrease in 2018/19 versus the year before in over 65s.

You’re wrong, it’s no big deal.

Look at the graph again. The last half decade from 2015-16 there is a trend up...and you can be sure the 2019/20 take up was higher. I didn't mention anything about the half decade previous to that.

On extrapolation of data: it's filling in the data that is likely there if all surveys were completed and collated for final results. There's nothing inaccurate about it. If you think there is, then you maybe should take that up with the statisticians of the Nuffield Trust, who I'm sure will be very interested in your correction of their work.

They've locked down when needed and pulled it away when they don't.

Whereas we've done half measures so the economy has no chance.

I completely agree about the 'new strain' nonsense. In my opinion they've just got it completely wrong again with trying to keep bad areas in the south in tier 2 when they should have been in tier 3.

I don't really think its a conspiracy theory, just rubbish management by the tories as usual. Why didn't they close all schools a week early? Would have hugely reduced spread and probably made up for some of the Christmas period.

No where did I say 80000 deaths was nothing! Approx 40000 each year die from flu. My argument was there is no lockdown every year due to the amount of flu deaths. Every death is a tragedy but life must go on. There is nothing wrong with people saying we have approached this situation in th wrong manner. This is my thinking now. But I understand the counter argument and people are entitled to their own opinions without getting shouted down.
The financial cost of these lockdownsis horrendous. I was fully behind the first lockdown but for me we cannot afford to go into continuous lockdown. Hopefully we can get clearance for this Oxford vaccine so we can all get out off this situation

Where does 40,000 deaths from flu each year come from mate.

2018/19 flu deaths where 1,692.

The average for England since 2014 is 17,000 pa.

Thats a very big difference.
This virus is not comparable to the flu at all.

Agree there might be a slightly different strain but leaving London open is the predominant issue which has caused this.

Without the need for quite stringent social distancing. Yes there's regular influenza vaccines, but the point is that the current death rate is with draconian rules.

If COVID was allowed to have spread without restrictions for the past nine months, I suspect the death rate would have been much, much greater.

The death rate is already too high, however the potential number of deaths that we could quite feasibly have had is why we required a lock down.

Not only that, when a virus mutates it usually becomes less lethal and more virulent.

Note they conveniently say they don't know about anything regarding increased or decreased mortality with this one, as it doesn't suit the narrative.

It's all, clearly, total BS.

Because it's the easiest comparison they can make through aerosol transmission although the virility of both viruses is quite apart.

For me, the fact that they're going to lock down the wealthiest part of the country is a sign of how worried they are. It shouldn't be political, but it has been.*

This new virus mutation and the announcement tonight: if its out of control why are they (presumamably) going to be leaving open for business restaurants (and pubs if the serve food) and retail in Tier 2 areas?

If it's out of control you lockdown nationally, like Germany and the Netherlands and Italy and Austria etc are doing.
